This fossil came out of Florida. I'm assuming mastodon or mammoth. Foot Bone? Your thoughts? Appears to have some smooth, flat surfaces as shown in the second pic. Thank you.

This fossil came out of Florida. Note that it has a smooth concave "cup" in the center. Assuming mammoth or mastodon. Foot bone? Knee cap? Any thoughts? thank you.

Hello folks - Please see the attached two photos. I am trying to identifying the bones in the photos and have numbered each piece and I took photos of BOTH sides of each piece. For two of the bones, I took a third picture. These all came out of Florida. I believe bone #2 is a Mastodon jaw bone and bone #3 is a scapula to either a Mammoth or Mastodon. Please note that bone #7 (3rd photo) has a concave shape / cup in the middle of it. Thanks for your input. Tom

Hello Everyone, I acquired the fossils years ago through an estate sale. The original owner had poorly packed them in a cardboard box and some pieces were broken. They have been repacked very carefully since I found the damage and repacked them 20+ years ago. I am just taking the time to study them and trying to ID as many as possible. I appreciate and am thankful for any help! The original owner was an amateur archy sometime in the 1920s - 1930s. The only information available was these were found "Out West". The last member of the family was elderly and she had been suffering from Alzheimer's for years. Scant info I realize but it is all I have. First Fossil:

What animals lived with humans and mammoths during the Younger Dryas in new england?

(I ask for paleoart purposes) what animals lived in the northeastern, more specifically New England, even most specifically massachusetts/cape cod. I want to make a peice with some megafauna that lived during the Younger Dryas, and mabe some early humans if my inability to draw humans becomes at least somewhat better. Thank you! -

Hi all! Went to the Peace river for the 1st time on Thanksgiving break, had a blast, am going to write a trip report soon. But these 4 bones are stumping me as to what they could be. Everything found was in the lower Peace. The finds are numbered for convenience. Thanks in advance for any help and guidance! 1) in my research, this looks like a camel unciform bone, but I wanted to ask around to make sure 2) my gut tells me this could be bison something, but I have no idea what part of the bison skeleton it is, if there's some anatomy resources available let me know. 3) this bone was dense, it's probably unlikely to ID, but I wanted to rule out Mammoth or not. 4) lastly what is probably yet another horse/bison frag. This one was annoying to figure out.

Proboscidean from Southern MN gravel pit on Minnesota river. Mammoth or Mastodon? The acetabulum (socket) is approximately 7" in diameter. Sorry for lack of scale

I found this today out on the brazos river and I’m not sure what it is exactly. When I first picked it up my thought was mammoth or mastodon skull just from pictures I have seen. Can anyone help me identify this?

Hi All, Had some time off from work this past Friday, and decided to take a drive out to Big Brook to do some hunting. Had a pretty successful outing, finding some of the biggest shark teeth (Goblin) I've found in my handful of visits to the Brook. Would have been very happy to leave with just those few pieces. The best find of the day was a piece of a Mastodon tooth. I'm still learning, and at first didn't realize what I had, thinking it may be part of a turtle scute (still new to all of this). Thanks to a couple members of the "Fossils and Native American Artifacts (NJ and surrounding areas)" Facebook group, they were able to pin an ID. Compared it to some photos of other examples and it definitley looks like Mastodon. Totally blown away by this find!! Had a few other nice pieces photgraphed below. Last piece of the day was what appears to be a rib bone. Could very well be modern White Tail Deer, as the brook is rich an iron, and can stain the bone pretty quickly. I found the Goblin Shark teeth in the same deposit, but also found a partial of a more modern deer jaw. Jaw was partially white and brown (didn't save as I could tell it was modern). In any case, not sure if it's anything but a modern deer rib. Feedback good or bad is appreciated. Thanks! Calm day @ the Brook. Couple sifts in, and pulled this tooth. Good start!

Went out yesterday for an unusual weekend trip.. I had a week long trip to Northeast Florida, and thus missed some of this precious hunting time, before the summer storms arrive and fill the river to its banks. Since my hunting partner had missed hunting for the week, he wanted to go out yesterday and tomorrow. Just being accommodating plus I love being in the river. Here are my finds for the day, sorting out the vast majority of small shark teeth. I showed the Mastodon and small Meg in an earlier post, so here I plan to focus on the rest... I was picking up a lot of broken teeth and bone and decided to keep more than I usually do. SO if I saw enamel , I kept it . The with the bone I found a piece of fossilized wood Lower left, and I thought about its texture compared to bone (ribs). Then I started keeping any fossil with "strange" texture.... A close up of the wood... Why is this wood instead of bone, I asked myself... and started picking out random bones for comparison purposes. Another interesting find...was some mud_rock with a little silicified layer attached...It was not until I was taking photos that I noted the blue druzy orbs... nice surprise Here is one I almost tossed.... just too small and fragmented. I do not know enough about fish jaws because they are very hard to find... but I did find one that I had identified. They looked to be very similar.. I had found a tooth for the 2021 Jaw, Then we identified the 2021 jaw as Alligator gar, and compared to this jaw from Nate, SO I am wondering if this new find is also Alligator gar.. A bit small... Note the enamel on the left side of the photo... There are lots of other broken fossils in the group shot that triggered my curiosity and demonstrates the diversity of fossils in the Peace River... Let me know if you would like to discuss / comment on any....

Here are a few things from a recent trip to the Santa Fe river that I was not able to identify. Guesses: A/B: Since these bones are hollow, does that mean they had to belong to a large bird? C/D: smaller bird bones? E: Mastodon or gomphothere tooth enamel? F: part of a tortoise foot or maybe a sesamoid bone? G: Translucent in the light, making me wonder if this is fossilized sap or something of the sort Appreciate any help!

I bought this tooth fragment last year. It was advertised as a partial juvenile mastodon tooth, but I honestly have no idea if that's correct. I hardly spent anything on it so it's not a huge deal if it's something else entirely. Thoughts?
