  1. Hello TFF members! I just put together a compilation video of finding shark teeth on roads here in Florida over this past summer. If you've been watching my other vids, you may have seen some of this already. Many miles were walked, much sweat was shed and lots of teeth were found. We got large megalodon teeth, a killer Parotodus (maybe the best shark tooth I have ever found), great whites and makos and a bunch of other cool stuff. Check it out if you get time and like watching fossil hunting vids: Here's some pics if you don't want to watch a vid: Great white shark tooth in matrix Juvenile megalodon. Megalodon tooth spotted from a moving vehicle on the road. Killer little great white...had to do a coin toss for this one since we spotted it at the exact same time. And my baby, a killer Parotodus that I also spotted from a moving vehicle.
  2. Hey folks! @Cris and myself grabbed the canoe recently and set out on yet another exciting fossil hunting voyage! We went to a slightly flooded, very remote creek in the middle of the swamp. Confidence in finding tons of fossils were not high, but to our surprise we were rewarded with literally hundreds of sharks teeth! Nothing of major size, but the sheer number of fossils was just as exciting for us. Can't wait to go back! We were also able to collect some micro matrix which is loaded with tiny shark teeth and other fossils. I'll definitely be posting stuff from that when I look through what I collected!

    Shark teeth

I’m pretty sure the white tooth is a fossilized mako and I think the dark is a juvenile Megalodon or great white. Pretty sure it’s a meg what do you guys think?
  4. Hey guys I just got this and when I first looked at the photos I thought it was real. So I bought it but now that I see it in person seems doctored or fake maybe???? What do you guys think real or fake?
  5. Hello TFF members, I got out for a very, very hot fossil hunting trip the other day and a managed to find a few small megalodon shark teeth, snaggletooth teeth, a three-toed horse tooth and bone and a bunch of other cool stuff. The only way I could bare the heat was to dip my shirt into the water and put it against my back in between every single screen. And if you don't want to watch the vid and/or can't see the thumbnail, here's a closeup of some of the highlights from the hunt: -Cris

    Is it a megalodon?

Hey hi Y'all,'I found this while re-searching through My collection of teeth from Sharktooth hill. Is it a megalodon?

    Megalodon teeth

From the album: Sharks and fish

    Megalodon tooth and tooth fragments.
  8. @Cris and myself went on another brutally hot fossil hunt to the creek yesterday. We went for just a few hours, and were very pleased with the results! We found a couple roughed up Megalodon teeth, some very nice Mako's, a big crocodile tooth, and my favorite find of the day was a killer three-toed horse tooth! I'm gonna go rest my back now
  9. Hi everyone, I’m new to this, so I need some help. I originally purchased a small megalodon tooth from a reputable seller earlier this year, so I’m not worried about it. I just purchased two decent size ones yesterday at a gun show. I’m almost positive that the broken one is real, but I’m mainly curious if the other one is real or has been restored. It’s 4 9/16 inches, and I paid $60 for it. The broken one is 4 15/16 inches, and I paid $30 for that one. Thanks!

    Dad Needs Help

Hey guys, my 6 year old son is incredibly into dinosaurs, other prehistoric animals, and, more recently, megalodon. He's said, for about the past 6 months, that he wants to be a paleontologist when he gets older. I'd like to continue to foster his love of science, biology, and paleontology by taking him on some fossil hunting trips and digs up and down the east coast. However, I have no idea where to begin. Any recommendations on some great places to go within about 5 hours of Richmond, Va? Also are there any places in the US where you can actually go and dig, find, and potentially keep legitimate dinosaur fossils or are all of those sites closed and/or you are unable to keep. Thank you

    Megs inlaid with pyrite?

Hey All, Up to this point I have mostly been personally hunting for megs and whatever other fossils Calvert Cliffs will offer. However recently I have been searching online to purchase a few larger megs that are not possible for me to find. One thing I noticed is there seems to be a growing number of megs "inlaid with pyrite". It gives the fossil a gold/silver/ appearance. on the enamel. These megs are not typically cheap or small. There are many 5 and 6 inch megs with pyrite and I see some selling for $1,000 USD +. My question is: nothing about the "inlaid with pyrite" is natural, right? It is essentially "restoration", like polishing? And second, to each their own, but are people paying a premium for this "look"? Or is it mainly a way to restore/disguise damaged teeth? If the megs are selling then good for the vendors however I understand restoring or even polishing teeth (as long as the vendor is upfront). But I just found the pyrite be an odd practice in the world of megs. Thanks!
  12. Hello, I was hoping some of the experts here could please provide me some feedback on my megalodon tooth. I purchased this about 15 years ago or so at the Tucson Gem and Mineral show while I was attending college at U of AZ. I've moved several times since then and have unfortunately lost the receipt and can't recall from what dealer I purchased it. Please let me know what you all think based on the photos. Thanks!
  13. Just purchased this amazing colored Caribbean Megalodon tooth.
  14. I got out with a friend to do a little fossil hunting a couple days ago...The weather was incredibly hot, but we managed to pull some nice stuff out of the creek we were hunting. We were hitting a middle Miocene site. I got a nice little dolphin tooth, a three-toed horse teeth, shark teeth (megs, makos, snaggletooth, etc) and a bunch of other cool stuff. Here's the video of the hunt: If you don't want to watch a video, here's pics: A Delphinodon tooth. A nice little megalodon tooth. A killer little point! (Note: this creek is a non-navigable waterway, not state land. A tiny megalodon tooth. Another juvenile megalodon tooth! Snaggletooth in the screen. Thanks for looking! -Cris
  15. Looking miocene shark teeth….. all kind! I can offer fossils from Europe.
  16. @Cris and myself went out to the creek a few days in hopes of finding some fossils! It was HOT, there were bugs everywhere, and thunderstorms all around, but we still had a fun day. The fossil finds were not as plentiful as hoped for, but not every day can be insane! We still had an amazing time and ended up coming home with some cool fossils. Photo of the finds is below if you can't watch the video!
  17. I managed to get out for a hunt with some friends a couple days ago. Lots of rain here in Florida means the rivers are flooded, but the creek hunting is good. We managed to find a new spot that hasn't been hunted before and pulled some very nice fossils out. I am actually going back to this spot in a few minutes, because I'm obsessed. If you're not interested in watching the video, here's a bunch of the finds (but not all): A big dugong vert. Two megs from the same screen. A pretty little mako! And some of the shark tooth highlights from the end of the hunt! Can't wait to get back there later today and see what else is hiding in there! -Cris
  18. This is the first of 2 posts for 2 large shark's teeth. This one was found by myself on a shell driveway in Sarasota, Florida. Really. The dimensions are: 1 ¾ inch (4.445 cm) wide, 2 ½ inch (6.35 cm) long, height is ¾ inches (1.905 cm), tip curves up approx. ¼ inches (.635 cm), the width (from top to bottom) of the inside triangle shape is 5/16 inch (0.79375 cm). Here are some pictures as best as I can take them. Can you help me ID this tooth?
  19. Hello, all. I am from Maryland but grew up in Sarasota, Florida. I collect Shark's teeth (mostly are from Venice Beach). I am not very experienced at identifying them, though I have a good collection. I decided to join the community because I have had 2 large shark's teeth for quite a long time and want to identify them and get an idea (if possible what they are worth). Your forum was suggested as a way to do this by this site: fossilera.com.
  20. Hey guys. I am offering up a 4.13” Bone Valley meg from my collection for trade. Absolutely massive tooth for the location and in incredible condition. Only flaws are two feeding marks, but the tip is intact which is hard to get in BV, especially on a tooth this size. Incredible color, amazing bourlette, sharp serrations... just a killer example that doesn’t come available often. No repair or restoration of any kind. I’m looking to add more Peruvian teeth to my collection, specifically a meg. Also always interested in 6”+ megs or high quality megs from any location. Let me know what you have! TJ
  21. Cris and I went out to enjoy some brutal summer heat, and find some fossils yesterday! The finds weren't quite as productive as some days at these sites, but we still had an awesome time and found some really cool stuff! The way one of the megs is found is absolutely nerve-wracking. You'll see!
  22. Forgive me if I am posting in the wrong section. But I have been to Green Mill Run once last year, and am looking to go this week. I am on vacation in North Carolina but a couple hours away. There has been quite a bit of rain which I know can make Green Mill Run unavailable to Fossil hunting. I could not find a way to determine what the water level might be like, and I don't know how fast the creek empties from water after rains. By any chance if anyone that lives in the area familiar with this location could give me a heads up if it's worth my drive there to Fossil hunt with my nine-year-old son and family that would be awesome. If not we might just make the drive and peek into the creek, but if it's not available we would rather go to the Natural History Museum in Raleigh I guess. Thank you very much for anyone that could help, I know it's short notice but if we get there I will certainly post a report!
  23. Hey everyone! I realize I have not been active here for quite some time, but fear not - I have been actively fossil hunting! Cris and I have gotten into the habit of filming our fossil hunts lately, I know you have already seen some of his videos. So I'd like to go ahead and share mine as well! We had an insane shark tooth hunt during Shark Week, the perfect time! We also got a little strange, which you'll see. Link is below! It feels good to be back, and I look forward to posting actively again! https://youtu.be/APjz9FBaSOk
  24. Hello. My son and I are heading to South Carolina to Summerville area and Folly Beach area to search for Shark Teeth. This is a big trip from California for 4 full days and we hope to find some great fossils. This is August 4th-7th. We are doing an excursion on the 4th. But for the next day or two it is quite hard to figure which creeks/rivers are OK to go to which will give us some luck. Any insights? Checked the forums but it has been hard to find exactly where to go. On the last day we head to Folly beach to see what is there. Any insight on what section to start with? I have been following the tide charts. Thank you!
  25. Hello. I am new to this forum. I was wondering just how far up the sea line was in SC during the time of the megalodon. I have heard that many teeth can be found in Summerville SC. Any info would be appreciated. I am a beginner when it comes to collecting fossils. Thanks again.
