Hello Everyone! I can honestly, finally, say that I'm beginning to figure out the fossil-enigma that is Summerville, SC. It is a strange land where fossil deposits start and end within a matter of feet - a few inches of glorious gravel separating the sandy, ghostly-grey Chandler Bridge and the compact brownish marl of the Ashley Formation. If, by some miracle, you can find a ditch with the exact right depth, enough width, a little flowing water within a fossil-bearing strata that hasn't been hit by a million other collectors, you just might be able to put something together. Thanks to some nasty weather and a couple of days off of work, I've managed to finally find some spots that fit the bill. The finds pictured below come from two creeks (of maybe 15 that I checked) over the course of the last two days. The angustidens were the obvious gems, with one shamer nearly four inches long and nearly four inches wide! All-in-all, its been a great couple of days and I couldn't be happier with my success. This tooth was found in a limestone quarry very close to Pinar del Rio, Vinales Valley, in the western part of Cuba. The limestone in this part of the province is very fossil rich. It is known to contain fossil remains of prehistoric marine reptiles and mollusks. Tooth measures 4.01"

With the wind/wave forecast for eastern VA this weekend showing NE 10-15 knots, Mrs.SA2 and I decided to forgo boating on our fossil hunting expedition. Fortunately, one of our buddies has access to a really nice spot where you can walk in, so we went with him on Saturday. Turned out to be a very nice day and a great 5 hour walk along the beach. We really need to hunt/collect with him more often. When we got to the parking area there was already 1 car parked and the person was well ahead of us. Normally, we would be concerned but since we arrived 3 hours before low tide, we figured we would be OK and made our way to the beach and started our trek upstream. Wasn't long and we ran into the guy who had beaten us to the beach heading back to the car. He must of come out at the crack of dawn to already be done this far before low tide. After about 10 mins of walking, Mrs.SA2 started on a roll and was finding some beautifully colored hastalis. Here are a few in situ shots of some of her finds. Not to be out done, I lucked out as the tide was waning and found this beauty. She's on the small-ish side and has feeding damage to the tip, but finders can't be greedy and it was the biggest tooth found on the day. By the time we made the turn and started back towards the cars, we realized there were several groups of people between us and the starting point. This meant some competition for the fossils heading back. Here are photos of most of the teeth, the cetacean ear bones and the fish / shark verts we found. I'll post photos of our other finds a little later. Time to take Mrs.SA2 for a paddle in the kayaks on the reservoir for some exercise. Hopefully, we can spot the breeding pair of bald eagles that are now making the reservoir and our neighborhood home these days.

This is the nicest complete +5" specimen to come out of any quarry in Cuba for many years. That it came out of the Fines Limestone Quarry makes even more rare, this is the first tooth in over 18 months to be found there. The teeth that come out of this quarry tend to have beautiful colors and amazing preservation. Enjoy.

Budget Meg/Shark Teeth Collection Part 2 US Common Megs

Hello everyone, I'd like to share my extreme budget collection of megs for the US as requested, I've have been collecting shark teeth and other for a little over a year and a half now on a budget and have been surprised by what I was able to get a hold of so far. Condition doesn't bother me hence the budget but I have been able to find some megs from from interesting locations over the short period of time I've been collecting with a little bit of luck. I estimate I spent no more than $1,100 in total for this small collection. Tag me if there's any teeth you'd like to take a closer look at. In order: 1) Ace Basin, Ashepoo River SC 2) Lee Creek, Aurora, NC 3) Ocean teeth likely from offshore SC 4) Georgia??? 5) 7 inch+ meg fragment likely from offshore SC 6) Virginia Red Site (repaired) 7) Georgia??? 8) Virginia 9) St. Mary's??? 10) Georgia??? So since there is so much sand on the river and bay this time of year i decided to change things ups and wander some creeks. Well low and behold look what i found and it was the only tooth of the day it is right at the 5" mark. Maybe i will have to spend some more time in the creeks instead of the bay and river lol!!!

This tooth has restorations done to the tip, enamel peel on the back, and the corner of the tooth on the right side was missing.

Sand sand sand and a little bit of luck at Calvert Cliffs

Well the last few storms have not been kind to the fossil hunters of the Chesapeake Bay. The summer sand has really piled up over the past few weeks not to mention vibrio. I decided to venture out yesterday and I was luck enough to find it was calm and the water was clear enough that you could just barely see the bottom in knee deep water. Well I walked almost 3 miles in the water and i managed to sneak out one 2" meg dont know how many i walked over being unable to see but alas that is part of the game. I then met up with @VAfossilguy and got to show him the cliffs at Willows and found some nice stuff I always like showing people around if I can all in all it was a great day!

Hello everyone, I'd like to share my extreme budget collection of exotic megs/shark teeth so far, I've have been collecting shark teeth and other for a little over a year and a half now on an extremely tight budget and have been surprised by what I was able to get a hold of so far. Condition doesn't bother me hence the budget but I have been able to find some megs from from interesting locations over the short period of time I've been collecting with a little bit of luck. Locations include Puerto Rico, Cuba, Japan, Hawaii, Morocco, Mexico, Peru, and The Phillipines. Anyone else out there with extreme budget rare finds especially shark teeth (or from generally exotic locations), feel free to share and I'd love to see! In order of pictures: 1) Two megs and a hemi from Isabella, Puerto Rico 2) meg from Hawaii (Restored) 3) great white from Japan 4) meg from Morocco 5) meg from Cuba (unfortunately stuck on a wood plate but still a lovely display piece) 6) meg from the Phillipines 7) cubutensis from Peru 8) 2 Makos from Mexico 9 & 10) Heavily and horribly restored 5.9 inch Chilean meg (funny story with this one had an even worse restoration on it with made it look no different from a replica, was suspicious and bought it and when attempting a horrible derestoration process and a few slight touch ups of my own a large chilean meg was hiding under the mess, still needs a tad bit of work but I still love I was able to snag a large one cheap in this day and age ) @WhodamanHD Here we go uploaded !

Hi all, Today, I got a special present: my biggest meg tooth so far! And my second too (I'm kinda behind with them). With very nice serrations, this one is definitely one of the highest quality fossil shark teeth I have now. I think it's a "jet black" one. Oh, and the measurements are (longest tip to root distance): 8.3 cm (which is 3.3 inches). Not the biggest tooth, but still a nice one. Just wanted to share this beauty with you all Best regards, Max

Great trip with my daughter to Venice Sunday, she did pretty well. She found a good size bone and I'm unsure of what a few are. Thanks for the help in advance!

Should I Glue Broken Megalodon Tooth Fragments? (Puerto Rico)

Hello all, I recently received some megalodon teeth from Puerto Rico, the other one is ok but this one was found in fragments and held together by tape. I am wondering what will be a good way to repair the fragments for now, would super glue be ok to use or is there something else I should use? Since its from a rare locality I want to stabilize it as best as I can before I decide or not to fully repair it.

I think this is a megalodon fragment, but I'd like to get confirmation because I'm new to shark teeth fossils and not very knowledgeable. It was found in North Topsail Beach, NC.

So I have a few days off duty and I'm planning on making a long weekend out of it. I'm starting tomorrow in Aurora, NC at the museum's spoil piles. This will be a first, so any suggestions are appreciated. Saturday I will be going to the Charelston, SC area to try my luck again. I was looking for advice in this area. I have done a ton of research with little success. I don't expect someone to give exact locations to their honey holes but advise would be great! Also anyone interested in joining would be welcome. Finally, a few days of free diving the bone yard in Venice, FL.... That's home! Any advice, suggestions, or anyone interested in joining please chime in. I'll post pics as it happens. I just put together a new Megalodon tooth mini display case... The tooth is 5.3 inches from Carolina. I put smaller damaged teeth around the bottom. I got the shadow box from Hobby Lobby. It is an unusual shadowbox because it has glass all around the sides. I got the image background from the American Museum of Natural History. I plan to make at least one other similar display case for other fossils, with different picture backgrounds.

Fossil divers do it in the mud... or rocks... or sand... pretty much anywhere there's teeth. The point is, we crawl over a lot of stuff in the course of a dive. This weekend I was doing the normal thing looking for teeth while tyring to appear unappetizing to any passing sharks or gators when something scrunched under my right kneepad. I crawl over about a million and five rocks each dive, and usually ignore stuff like this, but that little fossil angel that straddles my tank said, "Better check that one out." So I did, and doggone it, that was a tooth down there! 3.9" fresh out of the clay. Thank you sir, I'll have another! (It looks bigger than 3.9" because I have tiny hands)

I found this tooth in June 2017 diving in a GA river. its is right at 5.0" and one of the nicest I have found!
