  1. Hello everyone! Im new here, and this is my first post. Apologies if I miswrite or post in this channel. I have just started my Fossil collection, im completely fascinated by them. Below I've posted some photos of the ones I got so far. Any opinions are welcome! 2x Carcharodon tooth, one small one big 2 x Spinosaurus 2 x Megalodon tooth the darker brown one was my first tooth. It measures 13.5 cm. The lighter one is my newest its sized at 15.5 cm. These will be getting better stands, to display them they are being made. Im in the lookout for other great pieces, as I would like to have 1-4 pieces for the same Fossil. It was actually a person on this forum who inspired me to build a collection due to the fantastic display of them. My dream would be to acquire a Tyrranosaur-Rex tooth, A claw from the raptor, or Spinosaurus, or any kind and perhaps a Mosasaurus skull. And a smaller great color looking Megalodon tooth, and perhaps others. Best, Phos_01

    Megalodon or white shark?

Hey Guys! This one is probably a lot more obvious than I'm making it. My head says Megalodon due to the age of Bone Valley and the size, but my gut says white shark due to no Bourlette, the shape of the enamel where it meets the root on the distal and mesial side, and the serrations. So I decided to seek out an outside opinion. This is from Bone Valley Florida. Any insight is greatly appreciated!

    Fossil Shark ID help please.

Hi folks. My turn to ask for ID help. I’m more of a dinosaur tooth and fossil guy. My friend gifted me these fossil shark teeth. Can you take a look and help me with these? I own a couple Meg teeth and other Shark teeth, but these are giving me a little trouble, or I’d like verification. The first two (A) and (B) have a bourlette, but proportionately large serrations like a Great White. Except GW teeth don’t have bourlettes. I believe (C) and (D) May be Carcharocles hastalis. Are they? I believe (E) is a Mako. But what species? Lastly, is (F) Carcharocles angustidens? Sorry, no locality info on any. Thank you all for looking.
  6. I'm visiting DeLand for a week and a half, and really want to find a spot to search for fossils or shark teeth, haven't found many online and I know people have their own secret spots. Pm me locations if you don't want to share them publicly guys, I am only hand searching with a few family members. I am willing to drive a couple hours to spend a day hunting fossils

    Hunting Bone Valley

The rains are increasing water depth almost daily, a hurricane is coming in, and so why not go hunting this last Friday. There was a 60% chance of rain starting about 1 pm, but we'll deal with that when and if it comes. As normal, we were finding many smaller shark teeth, most broken but a few good lemons and duskies, with an occasional Sand Tiger tossed in. I like Sand Tigers because they are relatively rare in my hunting areas. Usually, I am seeking those fossils that are not small shark teeth, and those are becoming harder and harder to find... likely due to my efforts and those of my friends. So we endured the bugs and heat for 5 hours and just on time, the skies opened up chasing us back to the shelter of my pickup a little after 1 pm. So, without further ado, here is my harvest for 5 hours of shoveling gravel into a sieve. Not much in quantity, but I was well pleased. So, what in included in this set of distressed fossils: Stingray.. 4 dermal denticles and 3 single teeth, a partial earbone, an endpiece for a cannon bone from what might be a small horse, a barracuda tooth, a piece of enamel from Mastodon or Gomph, another piece from Rhino, a Sawfish vertebra, another broken fish or shark vertebra, the tip of a juvenile dugong rib. So far , pretty normal. Then an Equus size horse tooth, an unusual find in this Miocene/Pliocene mix, and next to it, a beat up much smaller horse tooth, likely Nannippus sp. Then a couple of Megs... in decent shape ... The larger one is 2.3 inches, has good serrations, a great root, feeding damage on the tip. The smaller one has an excellent root, good serrations and would be almost perfect except for feeding damage to the tip and then once again to the serrations. This tooth fell out during a feeding frenzy and was bitten by the shark losing the tooth or another shark very close by.... those 3 similar and equidistant bite marks tell the story. One fossil left. I think I will ask @digit to identify. Ken has seen this fossil previously when he volunteers to help the paleontologists at University of Florida. It is the one I'll remember.
  9. Hey all, I stumbled upon this at an attractive price (but not so attractive that it screams reproduction) My concerns are mostly how the enamel meets the root of the tooth. I know the lighting is poor but unfortunately these are the only two photos. Appreciate any input!

    Is this a chubutensis?

I am looking for nice chubutensis tooth and I saw this on online. Please help me figure out what this is.. Is this a chubu or meg? I know nothing about locality of this fossil except Southeastern US..
  11. I bought this megalodon tooth the other day and was wondering whether it is real or not. I added images of it from the front and the back

    Shark Teeth

This time I decided to draw some teeth from the group of Megatooth sharks. No point in showing original photos this time, since you all know what they look like. Now that the weather is finally taking a turn for the better, I'll be spending more time in the field again, so it may be a while before I get back to sketching again. And besides, Sara has just arrived and I need to keep her entertained.

    Very Pleasant day

It was very hot today in Florida (96 Fahrenheit) . I did not notice until I got out of the river to leave. Pleasant, outdoors in nature, finding treasures from the distant past: large pieces of Mastodon/Mammoth teeth, a piece of Mastodon/Mammoth skull, Giant Tortoise shell, Horse teeth, a llama/camel tooth, dolphin ear bone, some nice Hemis, especially lowers, and 4-5 small Megs. The peace River is shallow. It is supposed to rain next week, so I enjoy while I can. Here is the best Meg... Think about it.. This Meg waited in the River for millions of years and today I was fortunate enough to come along and pick the right place. I am good at what I do, but I am also blessed to have this hobby during my retirement years. EDIT: Forgot to add. My alarm was set for 4:45 am today, and I have managed reset so it is also set of 4:45 am tomorrow. Good night all. Pleasant dreams.
  14. Hello everyone ! what does the root of this megalodon tooth look like? it seems genuine to me but I would like other opinions thanks
  15. Hello all, I bought this megalodon tooth in South Africa a few years ago, and I was just recently curious as to its authenticity.
  16. Hey everyone! Going to STH somewhat soon, I plan on going to Ernst quarries(or if anyone has any other sites they’d recommend), and was wondering if there were any tips anyone could give me, since This will be my first time. Also, are there safety instructions they give you when you get there?
  17. Looking to purchase a new Megalodon tooth that is not from the United states. Came across this one. Is this worth it or should I skip it Edit 1: The big and actual only thing i am kind of skeptical about is the right part of the Bourlette. I've purchased and traded with this person for a longer time now and he is trustworthy
  18. Hello. I finally got around to taking pictures of my collection. It took a while to identify and label everything. I hope you enjoy the pictures. I’ll update this topic as I add new fossils. My first shelf currently has fish and mammal fossils. Weird combination, but I have limited space. I think the Knightia look nice at the top of the bookcase. Pair of Knightia eocaena Diplomystus Sea robin nose bone. I found this while on a Peace River guided tour with Mark Renz. He kindly identified it for me.

    East Tennessee!

Hey all! I am extremely new to fossil hunting but it seems to be consuming my free time these days! I’m currently planning a beach vacation with my wife to NC and I’m doing it based on the best places to hunt megalodon teeth. Feel free to let me know of any tips or secret spots around Knoxville, TN or in the coasts NC area.
  20. Hello there! I buy a beautiful megalodon tooth few years ago. Because I am curious I find that it is slightly radioactive ( 0.4µS/hours). I store it in a small showcase with other fossils. I read that fossilized shark teeth are made of apatite that can contain uranium and thorium. IF my tooth contain uranium, is there a risk of radon gaz accumulation in my showcase????? Thank you in advance Nicolas

    Good Day on the Peace

Had a great day out on the Peace up in the north section. I'm primarily a tooth seeker but welcome other rare finds. Luckily the river will sever up plenty of teeth for years to come. This was my first time out in my new canoe(previously used inflatable kayaks due to convenience in my Camry.) And it makes a world of difference especially when to 12 ft. dinos make the plunge from the bank. Anyways the water levels were perfect. We found a nice pit that looked to be previously bank dug...... and it caused some concern from passers by. We only encountered 2 groups on the river. One being Fred Mazza and a group of guided customers who went pretty well upstream from us. The others were just a senior couple enjoying the float. Fred expressed his distaste at the bank diggers and I can only assume he thought we were doing the same. LET ME MAKE THIS CLEAR. If anyone can pass the word. That is scum of the earth behaviour. I'm a pretty conservative individual and I don't outstep what is written. And I certainly respect; demand respect from the farmers and local gov. out there that boarder the river. I go far out of my way to respect the land and laws. So much so that I won't even dig near a posted sign just to ensure that I cause no ill will between any parties. Which is why I can only hold my tongue is certain situations that I see on most of my trips. Here are the finds for the day. Might get one more trip in before the rain but if not.... i'll be updating with any land explorations. I'm planning on filling that juvenile meg with a silver plug. Let me know if you'd like to see that process!

    Peruvian Megalodon tooth?

This one came across and it said it's from Ocacuja Desert, Peru. I just wanted to be sure.

    Weird shark tooth

I've got this little tooth from my dad he found in North Carolina last year. It just looks really really weird to me. It looks like a Megalodon tooth, but I'm not 100% sure. Is it anything worth or is it special?
  24. Hello all, I'm making my fourth trip to Venice in a few weeks and I was wondering if anyone knows of any good land sites in the area, or further inland to where one might find Bone Valley teeth. Would also enjoy the company if you have a secret spot that you don't want to disclose the location of. I'll be diving in Venice a few days and maybe a trip out to Peace River, but I've always wanted to find a good Florida land site.
  25. I picked up this Megalodon tooth fossil in a fossil shop in Orkney. I’ve had it for little under a year now and am only just now considering it’s authenticity. To me it seems legit, mostly due to the condition of the top and I cannot find any evident tells of casting. Anyone with more expertise able to give me an answer? See pictures attached. Thanks, John. Additional information: Price - £75 Size - 4.7” Weight - 5.4 Oz / 156g
