Hello. This is my first post to this forum, so sorry if I get something wrong. I found this rock, among others, in Cooperstown, NY in an exposed hillside. I believe it to be a part of the Moscow Formation. I am completely unsure of what this is. I found many other fossils of things like brachiopods, but this is unlike any of them. There are three of these "things" in total, two next to each other and one at the bottom, not completely there. They're each 1.5 centimeters in length. If someone could ID these for me, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hello friends! I've had some time to sort through, organize and take photos of fossils from my recent trip to DSR. I have also attempted to ID some of my finds using Lindsey's Devonian Paleontology of NY but have found doing so with the bivalves especially difficult, I'm not sure if that is up to me not having experience with then, them being generally harder to differentiate or a bit of both. Starting off with the lophophorates: 1. This brachiopod is a Chonetid, I initially just thought that it was Devonchonetes which is common at the site but looking closer it looked much more like Longispina mucronata to me, would this be accurate? 2. Next, another Strophomenid brachiopod. Protoleptostrophia perplana? 3. Finally, I believed this one was a hyolith based on the shape and size but @Fossildude19 believed this one may be a nautiloid. I'm still inclined to say hyolith but would like to hear other opinions. I forgot to include a scale here but the shell is about 2 cm long and .5 wide . Pteriomorphs: 4. .I don't have much to say about these, they range in sizes but their form looks quite similar, I am not sure if they are the same species or different. Shell 1 Shell 2 Shell 3 Shell 4 Shell 5 6. This one also looks quite similar to the last few but the shell itself seems a bit more elongated. 7. this one although just a partial was the only one of the kind I found and still pretty well preserved which made me decide to keep it, not sure about the ID though. Pseudoaviculopecten? 8. I'm throwing these in here because I also had them photographed although I don't think these are bivalves, the objects have an iridescence to them and lack any shell detail beyond the wrinkly texture you see here, might these be phyllocarids? Will add more photos soon. Any help is really appreciated, Thank you.

Hello everyone, Being from CT fossil sites tend to not be too close to my area, especially the Paleozoic ones I am most interested in. As a result of this I don't get to go fossil hunting too often, and today was my first time going to the amazing DSR site after not having hunted for fossils for almost a year. The site was incredible and completely loaded with fossils, the most common probably being Devonchonetes. Unfortunately one of the people I was with couldn't handle the weather and we had to cut the hunt short. Hopefully we will return tomorrow and get to hunt there a lot longer. Here are some other photos from the site: Greenops pygidium, Dipleura partial and a mostly complete Greenops. And my favorite finds of the day: this piece I initially picked up due to the nice little bivalve but now that I've been able to look it over better, I found that it actually has a part of a Rhinocaris shell on the other side. This piece has a beautiful bivalve as well as a nice nautiloid behind it. Partial Eldredgeops rana Another bivalve similar to that second one both in shape and size A very nice Spiriferid I broke while opening some shale but was able to quickly glue back together. This wonderful little Orbiculoidea, love the inarticulate brachiopods! An Orthid, Rhipidomella? Out of matrix with both valves present and completely intact Some more beautiful Spiriferids Two Spinocyrtia granulosa, I really like the look and size of these brachs. Hopefully more to come tomorrow!

I've recently attempted to start preparing the fossils I collected in upstate NY. With a lot of trial and error and some nicked specimens, I have started to get used to my primitive preparation set-up consisting of a nail, a sewing needle and a hammer. Here's a disarticulated greenops which was great practice: On a side note, I've noticed that freshly exposed shell is a nice black. Would anyone know how to get that back?

Hey everyone, Just last week I took a camping trip to Watkins Glenn with my family. While there, I took advantage of the wonderful exposures prevalent in central NY and took to collect a plethora of Devonian age fossils. The first two days of the trip were solely dedicated took hiking and camping activities such as visiting the deep gorges present in the finger lakes area. You can see the steep walls of shale exposed along the gorge.

Here are the best prep results from a trade with Misha. Second & 3rd images: Back row, left specimen, Greenops boothi. In front of it, cephalon of Eldredgeops rana. Front specimen, pygidium (will try to identify later). Second row: brachiopods, one on left, Spinatrypta spinosa (renamed, will add new name to thread later on). The rest, thorax assemblages. Unfortunately, I couldn't get any of them to fit together. First image: rugose horn corals, other side of Spinatrypta brach. I will add the finest specimen in a reply to this post. Both carapace valves as well as the almost complete telson are present. The telson is wrapped underneath the carapace and one valve is underneath the other.

I found this a few weeks ago at DSR on the NYPS trip to madison county. Im having some trouble ID’ing it. Doesn't seem to be anything like it in Karl A. Wilson’s Field Guide to the Devonian Fossils of New York
