I was walking near a small group of streams in Holmdel, New Jersey. There were many small round rocks near the edge of the stream. One dark gray rock caught my eye because it had a perfect round hole towards the top center of the rock. The hole was "drilled" thru about 3/4 of an inch in perfect cylindrical form. I knew this was more than a natural rock formation. My guess is it is a hand tool for banging or hitting something (it fits perfectly around my thumb and palm) or it is the head of a hammer or hammer type weapon or lastly I was thinking it could be used to start a spark or fire. The hole was used to wear the article around the neck with a rope chain or the hole was used to securely wrap the article around a stick or pole. The article is made out of a heavy grayish Quartz type of stone or rock. The rock gently glistens in the light from the Quartz. The end is pointed and very hard and blunt. The article was found in a swamp/stream river bed in Holmdel, NJ in Central NJ about five miles inland from the ocean. Is this an American Indian artifact or something else? Thank you
