Hello, I need some help identifying the owner of my bone collection. Long story short, I have been obessed with collecting some reptile like fossil bones in various states of preservation from my local beach over the last year. I have probably about 30 in total. Each day, I'd go back down to the site to see what had rolled in. Most are small "finger like" bits but, these are my favorites of the bunch. Anyway please have a look and I would be thrilled if someone might help to id and let me know if I have discovered something cool here. I am in a nj coastal cretaceous area. Thanks so much

I had a great day yesterday collecting at the Ramanessin Brook with @Jeffrey P and @frankh8147 and members of the DVPS. The weather was a bit overcast but the iffy weather certainly did not take away from the great accumulation of finds. From what I could tell everyone seemed to find something special, with the find of the day going to Frank. I started out finding a bunch of shark teeth and slowly transitioned to finding more fish teeth and other goodies from the brook. I seem to have a penchant for finding crustacean claws as this is the second trip in a row on which I have found a crustacean claw. The finds from about 5 hours of sifting Here are some of my favorite finds from the trip: A little piece of ammonite Pycnodont (Anomoeodous phaseolus) lateral tooth on a section of mouth plate Enchodus lower palatine jaw fragment Tiny crustacean claws (probably ghost shrimp) A small red Archaeolamna kopingensis A cool little clam steinkern I found just hanging out on a gravel bar

So guys basically my neighbor’s friend has big brook running through their backyard, and they found this recently. They are pretty young, and at first they told me they found a dinosaur jaw or bone or something. So I was real skeptical and expecting it to be a deer jaw. But they sent me a picture, and though not a dinosaur jaw, it’s not quite a deer jaw! It seems pretty big, has a few molars still intact, and has the shape of a bison jaw but I’m not sure. Please help me identify it! This is a picture of it in my neighbor’s friend’s hand so I don’t know the exact size but I will ask.

Hi again, hoping this time I have something. From Big Brook, NJ. I cannot find anything like it on extensive research. It's not modern bone. Sorry for the US quarter as I have temp misplaced my tape measure. The black smooth area on the top in the first pic is concave but not uniformly so. In one of the photos I put a pebble in there to try to show some depth it its not noticeable. Thanks again for any help!

Hi, found this at Big Brook NJ and trying to determine if it's possible a Mosasaur or Croc tooth or stone/other. It's about 1-1/4 to 1-1/2" long. Thanks for any info!

Hi everyone, found this in a new jersey cretaceous creek. Looks like a partial enamel something but I'm not exactly sure what it can possibly be from, it interestingly has some very defined ridges on the least worn side. Very hard to catch the clearest pics to show the sharpest definition but I tried to get the best I could. Maybe this can be a clue to a potential id. Pictures of it with whiteish background are upside down.

I found this weird thing this past weekend while out fossil collecting in Big Brook. As many know, Big Brook has a lot of pseudofossils - rocks and other geologic material that look like fossils - so there is a very real possibility this is just nothing. However, it caught my eye and curiosity enough to think to bring it home to look at it closer under my digital microscope. It has an interesting pattern of tiny bumps. Any thoughts on what this could be are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Tuesday this week (1/19/2021) I headed over to Big Brook Preserve after reading up on it on this forum and other sites. Made for a cold day in the water but ran across some other fossil hunters (both locals and out of staters like me.) I found a few neat teeth, mainly a few goblin shark teeth, as well as some crow shark teeth, and of course belemnites. Nothing spectacular compared to some posts but defiantly made my week! The locals were finding teeth up by the Boundary Rd. access (that is where I found mine) and I was finding tons of belemnites down by the Hillsdale Rd. entrance. The locals I ran into recommended going up towards a school that the brook runs through as they have found some bear claws there, they weren't sure if they were fossilized (over 10,000) or just really old and preserved by the creek. I did not have the chance to check that area out as I ran into them as I was finishing up for the day. Definitely worth your time if you are into shark teeth.

Hi all, I made my first trip out to Ramanessin Brook (NJ cretaceous) today. I found several teeth, and a partial shark vert. I also found what is most likely a rock, but might have some impression in it, and a partial bone(?) with nubs and grooves. If anyone can help with either I appreciate it. I took an overall photo of each, and then close ups using a jeweler's loupe. If the closeup photos are not adequate enough I can try to take better photos. I have a decent mirror-less camera, but I don't have a macro lens for the closeups. The light piece is probably just a rock. But the dark piece appears to be something, fossil or not. Thanks! Steve

Hi everyone! I found these at the Big Brook Preserve in Colts Neck, NJ in May of 2020. This was my first fossil hunt so I'm pretty sure I was at the wrong exact location but I was nearby. I found them directly in the creek and had to use a sifter. This was also after a rainstorm. I'm not sure if anything here is a fossil, but I figured I'd ask the experts! Found this Fossil at Big Brook in New Jersey. It is a marine fossil site and I was wondering what this object is. It has the texture of a tooth or fossilized material. The object has a cone shape with a pointy tip at the end. On the inside, the object has lines and indents running down the side in 1 direction Images

Found this today out at the brooks, stumped on what it could be - never seen this kind of patterning on anything from the brooks before. Perhaps some sort of armor plate?

I was fortunate enough to find many nice teeth during 2020. These are some of either my nicest, favorite, or somewhat uncommon finds from my searching at Big Brook, NJ. These finds are late cretaceous (~65 million years old). Sources for identification: http://www.njfossils.net/cover.html Fossil Shark Teeth of the world, by Cocke The first picture are 4 of my largest and most complete goblin teeth (Scapanorhynchus texanus), all found on the same day! I think it had rained overnight, though there was no rain in the forecast. I think this along with unseasonably high temperatures led to bit of erosion. Picture #2: Mackerel teeth Left to right, first is Cretolamna appendiculata (lata?) and the latter two: Archaeolamna kopingensis. Mackerel teeth are some of my favorite due to their shape and cusplet size. Picture #3: A branchial tooth from an early drum fish (Anomaeodus phasolus). More photos will be uploaded in a comment.

Last month my dad and I ventured to the site of the former Granton Quarry in hopes of adding some nice Late Triassic fossils to my collection. We only stayed for an hour and a half because there isn't much there anymore. Much of the fossiliferous layer has been carved out by collectors. One spot looked as if someone just scooped out all of the rock. We were quite fortunate to find a spot that had been missed or had only recently been exposed. We came close on two occasions to finding a complete Diplurus newarki, but no luck this time around. That will just have to wait until our next trip! Here are some of my favorite finds: Some conchostracans (Estheria ovata) Several plates just covered in assorted bones and scales - I love the white/blue hue to these! First of the shamers. This fish is potentially complete, but when I tried to remove the last chip to see how well preserved the head is, the rock began to separate, so I just left it as is. For what it is worth, it is two-thirds of a Diplurus newarki, and two-thirds of a coelacanth is better than none! Here is the other one. This piece split off unevenly from a larger block - as often happens at Granton Quarry - exposing two heads of Diplurus newarki. One of the heads is incredibly well preserved and was likely part of a complete fish that was broken in half when the rock split. It is still a pretty cool find!

Hi everyone, I Found this rock on the beach in cape may nj this weekend. Was looking for artifacts and happened to flip this over and saw the inner area with a different colored inset. Curious to know something about this. (Approximately 1”x1/2”) Thanks.

I recently found this at Big Brook in NJ, USA. I am not sure what this is. The outer layer appears to have a spiral formation towards one end. It's just about 1 inch long (maybe a little less). Thanks for any help!

Out of the countless New Jersey cretaceous crab claws I've seen and found this has to be one of the strangest claw partials yet. Seems to be an ornamented shell as apposed to the smooth claw textures that are typically found. Definitely a very interesting piece, anyone have any ideas on a possible species or if any ornamental crabs have found in nj cretaceous, or any other new jersey cretaceous hunters ever come across one similar? Definitely a head scratcher

Found this thick bone piece in a new jersey cretaceous creek and wonder if its possible to maybe id since one side has a distinct rough texture while the other is flatter and striated, I would guess either large turtle, mosasaur, or dinosaur. My friend joked its a theropod maxilary skull fragment, but we all know around here that material seems close to impossible to come across haha. Interested to hear any other thoughts.

I’ve had this little find for a few weeks now. It’s about 2cm long. Was thinking some kind of fish tooth, or possibly even plesiosaur. You can see the pronounced striations in the pics. Definitely river worn, though. Thanks in advance!

Hey I found this while sifting and was not sure if it was a vert but i took it home and cleaned it up with a small electric engraver and dental pick and here it is. It looks like a vert but from what? biggest one I have found! Thanks!

Found this worn down piece in a new jersey cretaceous creek, while I think its a random worn bone piece it does have some very odd parts to it that are interesting, hoping to get some feedback on this one. Will post more pictures soon

Yesterday I took my boys down to Marlboro for our first trip to Big Brook Preserve. Overcast and humid seemed better to me then humid and full sun. We only came with a metal strainer and a few old spoons. I wasn't really sure how to start or what to look for but we had a great time...the boys splashing in the water more then looking for fossils! I found a few teeth, many concretions and I'm unsure of my other finds. I can't wait to go back! Would love any suggestions or possible id's on any of my finds!
