A recent trip to Cadiz , Ca and Latham shale trilobites- it’s absolute paradise with the desert vistas and train sounds. And trilobites. I was only able to visit one day this trip, but found a few incomplete. These few were especially fun. I really could stay for days… weeks. I wonder if anyone has found cast and mold trilobites specimens at that site. And I know this should probably go to the ID section… I think the first photo are tiny trilobite eyes?

Olenellus getzi and Olenellus (Paedumias) yorkensis

Here’s a beautiful double trilobite plate I recently split out. Neither of the trilobites are particularly large, around 2 cm, but they are fully matured. The pleura of both trilobites are still buried under a thin layer of rock, and I’ll be sure to reupload this awesome piece after some careful prep. -

Heartbreaker larval specimen. The fragile telson can be seen going up behind the right side of the cephalon. -

Hypostome of a relatively small Wanneria. This split out with nice three dimensional preservation. ~7mm. -

The B-Side to the nice Wanneria I found with Dean Ruocco in 2022. This bug was in his collection until I traded him for it. Thanks Dean! -

Here’s a perfectly articulated example of a once plentiful, now elusive Cambrian species. This is a puny bug, yet it is almost fully matured. The specimen measures less than just below one centimeter from cephalon to axial spine. Every delicate spine is in place, even the fragile axial spine! I was able to remove a thin layer of rock from atop the fragile cephalon without damaging the trilobite, making it one of my nicer finds this year. The bug is in the anti-Goldilocks zone of being just too big to focus under my hand magnifier to get the axial spine in focus along with the body, but you can still make it out in the photo. -
Paedumias yorkensis (?) juvenile

Though I’m fairly sure P. yorkensis is currently invalid, this definitely isn’t Olenellus. About 4 mm, I believe the rest of this immature trilobite may be buried underneath the rock. I will prep it once I have the proper tools! -

A nice, small Olenellus getzi waiting to be prepared. It’ll be around 2 cm when fully revealed! I’m This one should turn out beautiful, it’s certainly under there! -

The smallest trilobite fossil in my collection, this shed cephalon is less than one millimeter in length. -
From the album: Pioche Formation
I split this beauty out last Spring, unfortunately the positive ended up crumbling away. The specimen is about an inch and a half long, a fully mature yet relatively puny example of this iconic species. -

This ventrally preserved Kinzers bug was delicately prepped out by Jon Ginouves! I have previously uploaded this fossil to the album before it was prepared. -

Perfect! Even has small axial spine holes! -

This is the main body fossil, the other juvenile I shared is the reverse. -
Orytocephalites + unknown ptychopariid Cranidium

Two uncommon bugs, if only it weren’t just the cranidium! The orytocephalites cranidium is truly miniscule, it's located towards the bottom of the screen in the center - underneath the larger ptychopariid molt piece. -
