I found this scallop shell while walking on one of the hiking trails at El Moro Canyon in Orange County in Crystal Cove State Park, but I wanted to ask what species of scallop this specimen represents, because the marine Vaqueros, Topanga, Monterey, and Capistrano Formations are exposed in Crystal Cove State Park.

*A REAL LIVE OTTER FLOPS IN* hi I'm new here.
Sol The Fossil Otter posted a topic in Member Introductions
I'm Ryan, 26, just picked up the hobby again. I've been finding fossils in Gainesville creeks since I was a kid. I got to grow up near the FL Museum of Natural History and it showed me how much more there was to find besides shark teeth. I started hunting again in March 2020 when the pandemic lockdown started and I learned how to hunt for bigger and better through the museum website and the many youtubers in central Florida. I've found some great stuff in the first 10 trips that I'm excited to share. Hoping to start doing group digs, meetups, and everything else community oriented soon. I'll probably have my own youtube account set up soon to share whole fossil hunting episodes from my trips.- 12 replies

I wanted to ask if any fossils have been found in Coastal Canyon Park in Newport Coast, California, because most of the sediments in Orange County are Cenozoic in age (for example, the fossil otariid Eotaria and the fossil walruses Gomphotaria pugnax and Titanotaria orangensis have been found in the Miocene of Orange County).

Im still new at fossil hunting. Been looking at a few rivers small creeks here in Volusia county. I have also been searching the web. Still nothing comes up with hunting fossils and minerals in east central Florida. Volusia, Seminole, Brevard, Orange counties. You would think the st johns river areas would be a good place to search. If you guys know of any information that would be great?

Hello everyone, I thought the readers on this list might have fun with the Cooper Center's YouTube channel, where we post a "mystery" fossil every Friday. Test your fossil ID skills here: We also have other series, including interviews with scientisits, an archaeology quiz show, and various programs to teach paleontology and archaeology to a general audience.
