The attached photo shows material that seems to be fairly common in areas of the Peace River that have allot of deteriorated limestone and limestone slabs.I don't think it has any recognizable structure suggesting it is the result of some life form. Just generally a botryoidal shape. Does anyone know what it is or have any experience with it?

Had a great day out on the Peace up in the north section. I'm primarily a tooth seeker but welcome other rare finds. Luckily the river will sever up plenty of teeth for years to come. This was my first time out in my new canoe(previously used inflatable kayaks due to convenience in my Camry.) And it makes a world of difference especially when to 12 ft. dinos make the plunge from the bank. Anyways the water levels were perfect. We found a nice pit that looked to be previously bank dug...... and it caused some concern from passers by. We only encountered 2 groups on the river. One b

So I found this piece while fossil hunting in the Peace River here in Florida. It immediately gave me the impression of a certain something, so I set aside. It just seemed out of place for where I found it, (for it to be a rock). I have an idea of what it may possibly be, but want to see what others have to say first.

I'm stumped on this one. I found this over the weekend while hunting in the Peace River in Southwest Florida. It looks like a horse tooth, yet it's too small/thin to be? (was thinking maybe it's just a fragment of a horse tooth, not sure how common that is though?). Or possibly a juvenile ground sloth tooth? I'm fairly new to fossil hunting so I'm still trying to learn in regards to the rarer finds.

Hello everyone and just wanted to say that I love the website. I have only primarly hunted shark teeth from the beach, Saint Augustine and Venice beach. I am looking at taking my boys 8 and 15 and girlfriend to the peace river for some fossil and shark tooth hunting. We have kayaks and sifters, shovels and our permit already. We are camping at Brownville park and will be hunting mid May. I am looking for any advice on locations and any other information that might be helpful.

Hi guys! I am new to the forum but am an avid 23 year old fossil hunter and artifact collector. I have been hunting for a good while now and have a large collection from all over Florida. I was recently doing an overnight camping paddle on the peace river to hunt now that the water is low, and I found many things (including some worked flint among the fossils, which was quite surprising) but this particular find I need some opinions on! I’m not convinced that it’s entirely fossilized, though what is confusing me is that it is much heavier than it should be and also did not react significantly

Found this in a creek off of peace river, way way out. It’s not fossilized but it is old for sure. It appears to be a femur of some sort, but I can’t figure out what it belongs to? It is 9 inches long.

I finally booked a tour with Mr. Mazza on the Peace River. I talked my daughter into driving down from NC, and my sister here in Orlando to make the trip with me. Well, we weren’t disappointed in the least. Between my daughter and I, we found slightly over 500 teeth, not sure how many my sister found yet. Besides teeth, I found a few horse teeth and one capybara tooth. here are just a few of the many treasures found.

Hello, I have what I believe to be a fossilzed rib fragment from the peace river in florida. I thought it was a dewgong rib bone at first but on the busted side it seems to be "spongy" instead of completely solid.

Did not do well yesterday with the additional foot of water due to the storm, but found this little osteoderm. I don't think it's tortoise because it hasn't got the perimeter feature at it's base and it has a much more dense outer layer. Has anyone seen something similar before? I have several sloth osteoderms, but this doesn't have a similar texture to those either.

Picked this bone up in the Peace River, FL last week. I have been trying to find a match since getting it home but have not been successful. I first thought it could be turtle or alligator. I had no luck matching it up there and went to land mammal possibilities but again came up empty on a possible match. So, I am turning to the forum for help with an ID. Any input would be appreciated. The bone is 7 cm long x 3.5 cm wide x 3 cm tall/thick. Thanks for looking!

5 Peace River Fossils. Dolphin tooth? Turtle Nuchal plate? Bird bones?
FemurIHKH posted a topic in Fossil ID
Hello all, Was hoping for some help identifying some recent finds from the Charlie Creek in the Peace River of Florida. I'm still a novice with ID'ing so I was hoping for some guidance as to where I I went right and wrong. I believe they are, in order: a worn cetacean tooth, turtle nuchal scute, a fragment of stingray barb. The last set I am unsure of. Perhaps some bird clavicles? Thanks for any help you can give, Al- 7 replies

Was out on the Peace River yesterday and found two Dugong rib bones larger than what I normally come across so I decided to keep them. These dugong bones are so numerous I don't usually save them to add to my collection. After cleaning the bones with some mild soap and water I found one of them to have what look like slice or cut marks on one side. I found this very strange and wanted to ask if anyone has come across similar markings and what may have caused them. Any of the Florida/Peace River crew have an idea? @Harry Pristis @Shellseeker @Bone Daddy

My yearly trip to Florida to visit family and friends was just what I needed. Luckily during our visit, we missed Minnesota's most serious cold snap of the year. As always, I get over to the Peace River area and had a great time with @Shellseeker. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to visit @jcbshark as he is in the process of moving but missed seeing him anyways. Jack and I were very successful, after a LONG hike, at finding a secluded spot to sift on a tributary of the Peace River and it gave up some nice treasures. My free time was also spent looking for fossils in and around Sarasota/Bradenton d

Recovered the below bone from the Peace River a few weeks ago and put it aside thinking it was a partial bird bone or small reptile. On closer examination I can see serrations running along the length of the two sides. This now has me thinking Ray barb. The specimen is 26mm long by 10mm at the wide joint end. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
