These were found about 10 - 15 ft. below the surface in red dirt layer of a hill with elevation about 100 ft. above sea level. (one of the highest points in our parish) along with lots of other similar pieces that look like Osteoderms or scouts. They are not located at a known fossil formation but in a current dirt/rock pit. We have found many native American tools and arrow heads on this hill in central Louisiana and while my husband was digging with an excavator we started noticing random bright objects in the otherwise solid red dirt layer and some of their photos are attached. We did lick them and at least one side stuck. Lol. (We didn't lick both sides) Thank you for your help. Let me know if you need any other info. I also have what looks like a vertebrate that I need to share as well.

My friend's son earned his Eagle rank in Boy Scouts recently and the troop had his ceremony today. Of course, my buddy also wears a kilt. I know how much all you guys like my kilt pictures so I thought I would start a kilt thread. Who knows, maybe Kilts will become the preferred garment for fossil collecting! The kilt I'm wearing today is the Irish national tartan. Jayme's is in his family tartan.

Scout trip to North Sulphur River and Drone Footage
wrfisherman posted a topic in Fossil Hunting Trips
I'm a cubmaster for Cub Scouts and a couple of weeks ago, I took my scouts to the North Sulphur River for a fossil experience. We got there and I pulled out some examples of what they could expect to find. Just in case, I gave each scout a bag with a couple of shark teeth, a Baculite, a couple of Annelid Worms, and some Exogyra fragments. That way, just in case they didn't do as well, they could at least go away with something. Had a ball and they all sent pics of some of their finds. I'll add more as they come in (and I'll get around to photographing mine). All in all, though, we found a nice pathologic mosasaur tooth, some Scapanorynchus Texanus teeth, a nice Mosasaur vertebra, loads of fragmented Baculites and lots and lots of "Pretty rocks". Everyone had a ball and of course, the boys turned the trip into a swim party in the shallow water before we left. Here's a link to a drone video from one of my parents. He got some great shots of the river. I'll load pics in additional replies over the next few days below. https://onedrive.live.com/?authkey=!AkQWRft-a54Yalk&cid=906835256FAF2BD3&id=906835256FAF2BD3!31321&parId=906835256FAF2BD3!31186&o=OneUp Talk to you soon, M This area dropped off in front of our group. I pulled them off as things were still falling and sure enough, within an hour, it was completely covered by Pleistocene fill from above.- 11 replies
