Can anyone identify any of these pieced. I'm not sure if they are turtle shell fragments, dermal scutes or something else. There's four pieces in the photo - back and front images of a couple. Thanks in advance.

Both of these fossils come from Peace river in Florida. Judging from the edge and size I'm wondering if the top one is from the scapula of a mammoth/mastodon? Either that or something from a whale. Any ideas? The bottom is an armadillo scute that I once mistook for scrap bone and left in the scrap box until being rediscovered. Any way to tell if it's Holmesia septentrionalisis or Holmesina floridanus? Thanks

I was recently able to hit a tributary of the Sulphur River and came out with a crocodilian tooth. Otherwise it was a good trip, but not great like I had hoped. I do video better than photos and text. Here is the link. Can I ask a favor???? watch the first minute of the first video, and then the second video(1 min intro 2.0). Is the first intro so bad (shaky camera, uncomfortable camera angle) that I should try and replace it? Hello everyone, my first time here and have high hopes someone can point me in the right direction with these bones. (first 2 pics) All were found within 20 ft each other,dinosaur? Next pic is what looks like teeth or part of shell, and possibly a scute? Then close up of what seems more like cartilage, fish jaw? Dorsal? All came from a D/FW creek.

This looks tooth shaped but has a pattern like reptile skin or alligator. The one pic I am pointing to end that is broken off and where you can see it's bone. The pattern is different on each side. Best image I can get though blurry where details can be made out. I give up what is it?

While examining this for the tenth time I chipped it, that is when I could see it was bone. Appears to be individual scales of some sort..? Maybe a scute? This is a creek find, north Texas Cretateous.

Hello Forum! I recently went on a trip to Austin, TX and stopped by Bull Creek to do some fossil hunting. I came across several things, two of which I have posted here. The first fossil I found was sticking out of the side of the bank. It looks like it might be some kind of scute. The top and four sides have visible structure and are fairly smooth while the underside is very porous like it was ripped off. It is shaped a little like armadillo scutes I have seen. The second fossil appears to be a shell, but could someone tell me what kind? Thank you! Lauren

Nothing like a little thunderstorm to wash out the goodies. Yesterday's creek walk in Travis Co. TX yielded these specimens. Turtle scute. Any idea what kind? Not snapping turtle, I think. Distal phalanx. My first thoughts were deer, bison, or bos. The articulating surface has eroded away. Unstemmed biface. First thought here was Gahagan biface, but my lithics mentor thinks not. Kinney point doesn't seem to be right, either. I'll stick with 'unstemmed Texas biface' unless I hear otherwise. If you think I didn't string together a symphony of exuberant obscenities when I happened across the biface, then you don't know me very well, do you? Thanks for looking, y'all.

I wanted to share a few of my finds from this year, but cannot create an album yet. These are from several different trips out to the Peace River. The lighting was not ideal, but I tried to get the photos to where you can see the finer details. If you have more info on the specific species these may belong to, please let me know. Fish Scales Fish Mouth Plates Turtle Spur Glyptodon Scutes A few teeth front and back - The one on the left may be a fish tooth, the others may be incisors but of what animal I am not sure. They all have a polished, glossy feel to them.

I have two more examples from Big Brook. They could be nothing, but I'm not sure. Possible fish scale Croc/turtle scute? Thanks again for looking. Wayne

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with these two fossils I recently bought. - A crocodile scute, probably from the Cretaceous, from Taouz, Morocco. DownUnderFossilHunter replied it could be a Kentisuchus or Elosuchus? - 2 scans of the same vert, it's supposed to be a Spinosaurus tail vertebrae (also Taouz, Morocco), but I'd feel safer if I get a confirmation from somebody here, who perhaps knows more about these things than I do. It wasn't expensive, so I won't be too disappointed if it's not Spino, I guess. Well, probably a bit disappointed...

Okay again I found these in North Texas, Ladonia, in the Sulphur River. I believe them to be some sort of scutes, but what I don't know. Some actually look the way turtles feet look. Any ideas?
