  1. Flower Green River Formation, Parachute Creek Member Douglas Pass, Colorado. Radar Dome area. Denver Museum of Nature and Science. When I first saw this flower, I walked right past it thinking it was a dead flower laying on the rock. I'm glad something in my head made me go back and take another look. I realized that this specimen was rare and asked the Denver Museum if they were interested in it. They were, and the donation was made.

  4. Hi everyone, I've recently done some shale collecting near the Rocky River in Ohio. I've found the shale in this area is late Devonian to Mississippian, and is good matrix to look for microfossils. I've collected some smaller material that I'm soaking and freezing to disaggregate, and also some larger material (1-6 inches). I wanted to know if anyone has had any experience with matrix from this area/from this period and if so are you more successful with smaller or larger material? Thanks very much!

    Crayfish fossil?

Found in Guernsey, Wyoming area. Shake rock. About 1 inch long. If you notice, in the rock within the fossil has small line imprints. Assuming a crayfish, but is incomplete. Also on the same chunk of rock, a small (not even a centimeter) fossil that appears to have rings. Possible shell? Rock has tiny fragments of same red fossil scattered on it.

  22. On a recent hiking trip my jr paleontologists stumbled upon what we think is a bird fossil in a large piece of shale. This was found in a creek bed with running water along the Walnut creek formations. I believe this is in the Cretaceous period in the Dessau Member formation here in Austin, Texas. At first we assumed it was a turtle but after further researcher we have changed our minds. The sharp angle in the bone is similar to bird fossils we have seen in our research.
