Looking to trade some partial megalodon teeth for some hard matrix
mattbsharks posted a topic in Member-to-Member Fossil Trades
Hi everyone, I am looking for some matrix that is the hard kind that won't break or dissolve. I am going to glue teeth to it. I have some 3/4 complete megs that I am willing to trade for it.-

Hi all, Today, I got a special present: my biggest meg tooth so far! And my second too (I'm kinda behind with them). With very nice serrations, this one is definitely one of the highest quality fossil shark teeth I have now. I think it's a "jet black" one. Oh, and the measurements are (longest tip to root distance): 8.3 cm (which is 3.3 inches). Not the biggest tooth, but still a nice one. Just wanted to share this beauty with you all Best regards, Max

Found this a number of years ago on some private property along the Missouri River in southeastern South Dakota. The area has a lot of buffalo remains, and some bivalves and shark fossils. This looks like nothing else I've seen before, and I believe it's a shark tooth. Is this a shark tooth? If so, do you know what kind? It's about the exact size of a camera SD card, or slightly bigger than a quarter. The image shows it from three different angles. Thanks for your help!

Should I Glue Broken Megalodon Tooth Fragments? (Puerto Rico)
Kurufossils posted a topic in Fossil Preparation
Hello all, I recently received some megalodon teeth from Puerto Rico, the other one is ok but this one was found in fragments and held together by tape. I am wondering what will be a good way to repair the fragments for now, would super glue be ok to use or is there something else I should use? Since its from a rare locality I want to stabilize it as best as I can before I decide or not to fully repair it.- 17 replies

So I have these 2 incomplete shark teeth that I find really interesting and you might too as they almost look shredded/exploded. Finding perfect teeth is the goal but these hold my imagination and I only run across these kind once in awhile. So they are surface finds from Manatee Cnty, Florida. Miocene to Plio-Pleistocene in age? Neither has a root and the interior sections of the teeth are eroding and pieces of the enamel are still hanging on, especially the meg. Do you think this sort of delaminating is suggestive of just poor preservation--can any particular taphonomy/history be inferred? I've seen a couple other threads about this subject but I throw it out there for these two examples. I havent found smaller tooth shark examples doing this but I suspect they are out there and may just be not as sturdy to survive. I do have several completely small hollow examples but these seem different. All comments/speculation welcomed on these 2 teeth. Thanks. Regards, Chris

Not many fossils on this hunt but plenty of artifacts. Did manage to find one good size mosasaur vert and one pristine shark tooth. I ran into a mother hog and her babies, numerous other herds of hogs, snakes and more spiders than you can count. I also sunk in mud & water up to my chest and I'm 6ft 4 lol. North Texas creek hunt.

Fun North Sulphur River Texas hunt. The big Tylosaur tooth and coprolite were my favorite finds of the day.

A nice upper shark tooth from the six-gill cow shark, from Chile. Possibly from a male. One cusp is missing (far right in first photo).

I found a very nice variety of items while hunting my new favorite creek. I think the formation is Eagle Ford. I found a nice ammonite bed that I"ll start checking after a good rise. I had to leave the 50 lb + ammonite until I can get a boat or raft in there to float it out 2 miles. The old US military button was my favorite find of the day. The button is 1902 or later but still very old and makes you wonder how it ended up there? Two of the shark teeth are pretty big.

Hi everyone, After doing some research, I found this awesome forum. I'm new, but after doing a little bit of research I was wondering.. Is this a bull shark tooth, dusky tooth, or other? The tooth was found today on the Eastern side of Dauphin island, Al by the fort. Thank you so much! VID_20170729_231443.mp4

Hi all, Yesterday, on a fun day at the Zandmotor, I found my very first shark tooth Shark teeth at the Zandmotor are kinda rare, so for me this is an exciting find. Maybe it's small, worn and has some feeding damage, but I'm still proud of it. Anyways, I would love to put a name on this one. So: it comes from the Zandmotor, Netherlands, and is from the Eocene. I'm thinking Striatolamia macrota for the moment, as I can see the small remains of a worn out cusp (4th photo). The 5th and 6th photo are extracts of a small fossil guide I have, called Zeeuwse strandfossielen , written by Harry Raad en the Zeeuws Genootschap. It's in Dutch, but if you want to translate the content you can use Google Translate. Most of the info seems to match; apart from the size. What do you think? Am I correct, am I wrong, or is this tooth too worn to be IDd? Thanks, Max

Found this on the coast in South Carolina. I was about to toss it aside but I noticed the striations on the front surface. It's about 1 & 3/8 inches from top to bottom. The back side looks nothing like a shark tooth, but could this just be a broken fragment of something that was once larger?

This is a lovely little tooth found in very good condition. Most teeth of this kind are found with badly damaged roots but this one has survived the rigours of time.- 1 comment

These were found at the Sulphur River at Ladonia Fossil Park yesterday - which fossils are from the crustaceous period from what I've read. The river is in the process of flooding so I searched far on the banks where I usually wouldn't probably look, since getting in the river wasn't an option yesterday. The white thing is the one I'm mainly curious about. But, at the rate I have been going, I may as well ask about the other one too, since I have yet to find a winner. Thanks again for your time, I truly appreciate it. Laura

I found a new spot in Illinois that is loaded with carboniferous black shale. And this tooth fragment has gotten me pretty excited. Can anyone attempt an ID on this partial? The tooth measures about 1/2" × 1/2".

jpj3338 posted a topic in Fossil Hunting Trips
Hello all! I want to go shark hunting for the first time!! My gf and I are making a trip from charlotte to the charleston area for a weekend. Im originally from Chicago, so it is rare that I go to a beach let alone shark tooth hunt. Anyways, It would be a dream to find a great white tooth or megadolon. Sharks have always been my favorite animal (especially a great white). So the thought of finding a tooth is exciting. You probably get asked this a lot, but do you know of any specific places (that you are willing) to share to have a decent chance of finding a good tooth? This will just be a weekend trip and then I have to start my new job hours from the beach. So, I will not be depleting fossil locations. Just a fun weekend trip hoping to share some good memories. Thank you guys so much, Jeremy- 10 replies
