Found in the Lower Members of the Chinle Formation, Emery County, Utah, USA.

A family member found this on public land while camping in the San Rafael Swell of Utah. They brought it back to their trailer a short distance away. I told them to take some pictures of it with a ruler and then put it back where they found it just in case it is a vertebrate fossil. I cross referenced the location of the find with the Interactive Geologic Maps on the Utah Geological Survey website and have confirmed that it was found in the Lower Members of the Chinle Formation. The person did put it back where he found it and has since gone home so these are the only photos that were taken. We are really curious as to any thoughts or ideas as to what this might be. Hey y'all! I'll be staying in Salt Lake City for two and a half weeks from Mid May to the end of May. I was hoping to see if any of y'all knew of any private tours/quarries that would be open during that time. I'm looking for fossil fish and trilobites mostly, so if anyone knows of any trilobites aside from U-Dig that would be appreciated too. I recall going on a private digs when I was younger that was not affiliated with any of the big names (with permission from the landowner of course) - hoping to find something similar. Calling all people that "know a guy" - thanks!

Hi. I found these in southern Utah and thought they were petrified wood until I read somewhere petrified wood is smooth. Does anyone know what I have?

Mouth of Anomalocaris

Contributed this anomalocaris mouth to my university’s collection for research. Owner of the quarry said he only finds one every decade or so. Found in the Wheeler Formation in Utah (a Konzentrat-Lagerstätte where soft bodied organism can be preserved).

Not knowing petrified Wood species well, I searched the web and specifically TFF and came upon Marco Sr.'s fabulous thread and collection of pet.wood. I only have a few pieces and all are close enough in appearance to be the same species, if I'm guessing correctly. And that would be Pullisilvaxylon arizonicum. Anyone have a confirmation or another correct species? Thanks, Steve I cut 3 or 4 slabs off and gave the large piece to my son. He moved into a house his uncle bought for the college kiddos to be closer the University and left it behind so I snagged it for the pics and ID.

Happy Saturday, all! I'm helping a woman to photograph her brother's fossil collection. Everything was collected prior to 1967, after which he left the country. He's still living, but not easy to get a hold of. All of these items have been sitting in storage since then. I understand most of these may not be able to be identified. It's well outside of my wheelhouse, and I imagine many on here may be more familiar with material form the Morrison Formation. I'm going to add one or two per post to make it easy to differentiate. I'm most curious about the first piece which appears to be section of a jaw. If any additional photos are needed, please let me know. Thank you in advance! Label on storage boxes Some labels were included, but they were all jumbled. Fragments from the envelope.

Found on a buddies ranch in south western Utah. I’ve been slowly chipping away the sandstone matrix around it revealing smells of sulfur and low tide lol first I thought shells, however, the more i prep the more I’m revealing the scale sections are of one piece… 50 lbs or so. 18” long 12” wide and 7-10” thick. Any insight Is appreciated. I’m new here and have some others i need help with also. Thanks again!

Hi, several years ago, I was hiking a canyon about 25 miles south of Moab in a broad canyon at the base of Moenkopi, Chinle (Triassic), Wingate, and a bit of Kayenta (Jurassic). I found this bone in an ephemeral stream that ran through the canyon and have been curious. Anybody have ideas? It is unlikely petrified wood which is extremely prevalent in the area.

I found a trilobite I posted a bit back that was clearly ate in half. I found a lose trilobite piece that came out on split and looked a bit like the first I found but wanted to check if others thought same? The back end looks normal, middle area looks crushed like, then head missing. I was trying to look up photos of wounded or ate trilobites but could only find ones with small healed wounds. Wanted to find out so don't just throw in bag of bits and parts if it really is a ate one. #1 #1(closer)

As I was going through stuff finding some of the trilobites, I found the one with a healed injury (was from post before). I thought was really cool, with a nice different look to them and been looking out for anymore. Then I was trying to learn bits more and saw a molting picture and was wanting to see if the one I found is what most would think of as a molting from one trilobite? Thinking it would be nice to have a piece that count as a molting from trilobite. Can be hard to tell with parts and pieces all over in spots.

With the trilobites in matrix from utah do you need to do anything to them before storing? Will they fall apart or anything if just left as is? I did try a glue on a very very small trilobite that looked cool but after it dried looks bad now and can't see trilobite well (wish didn't after). Wouldn't want to mess up any others.

Was trying to split more of the utah shale and had something show up again wasn't sure of. Tried looking up but don't think it is a agnostida part. Its from the utah shale and very thin. Will post the 2 halves. #1(first half) #1(first half close as can get) #2(second half)

Was trying to prep. some trilobites and wasn't sure what a few things where. Still trying to learn more of these things. The first 1 looked bit different from other things seeing and wasn't sure if was maybe a upside down head piece or something else? The 2nd one I found a trilobite but it was upside down. So I tried to prep. from the other side and hit what wasn't sure of. There is a head piece of a trilobite to the side but wasn't sure the rest of it was? #1 #1 #2 upside down trilobite #2 what hit on other side of trilobite (was around the top of where trilobite should be) #2 (different angle)

Was going through Utah shale and have found a lot of these spot like fossils. But 1 I found seem to be the only one, that I found with a raised circle around it. Wasn't sure what it was? Not sure if the pictures will be good enough to show (circle part) well but thanks for any help.

Hi all! I was hoping I could get some assistance identifying some fragments that lie around two small bones that are visible. It seems that whatever the shell like pieces are, that they do wrap around whatever is encased inside the rest of the rock as they also appear on the underside. It looks as if it actually wraps around the fossil, almost like skin since it does contour around. Underneath the fragments are a porous, almost spongy tissue substance between the fragment and the actual bones. Thanks in advanced! I've been searching nonstop online and have not been able to tell what they were.
