  4. Hi all - I found this fragment in Central Texas today, Austin area. Likely Cretaceous or Pleistocene, I think. Is it a bone or something else? Any ideas? thanks!
  5. Thanks in advance. Any help you can give this newbie will be appreciated! I found this on east coast of central Florida, about a mile west of the Indian River Lagoon. It weighs about 10 grams. Most of the vertebra is hard like stone. Except on two of the sides, those cream color areas are like very densely packed powder. I've scraped away a lot of it and am wondering if I should try to clean it all out. Does an ultra sonic cleaner help with an item like this? Also, the concrete like deposits that are filling the openings. Can I aggressively clean those holes out? Any chance it's a xiphactinus?

  9. Hello everyone, I have recently acquired this Barasaurus fossil from Madagascar and I was wondering if it really is 100% natural as the seller has stated many times to me. I have read a couple of threads in this forum regarding Barasaurus fakes but still have many doubts. If possible, I would greatly appreciate any input from this forum’s experts regarding this piece. Do you think it's real? Please find attached some photos and thanks a lot for your help:

    Baby turtle fossil

Would love some background on this. I've seen Green River Formation fossils with big turtles before but never a tiny little fossil turtle. Unfortunately I don't know the provenance or the age. Any ID on this one? The scale in the background is centimeters. Thanks.

Hi all - found these two today in an area that had some new spots exposed due to erosion from recent rains. I found this vertebrae and another fossil (I think?) close to each other. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Cretaceous?

I'm interested in a few of these turtle fossils supposedly found in the Neuse river in North Carolina. They are also labeled as Cretaceous. Do you think this is accurate or could they be from another age and or locality?

    Another Kem Kem Oddity

Here's a specimen bought at the gem show back in the days when Moroccan vertebrate stuff was starting to appear at Tucson and other shows. It's from the Kem Kem Beds (Cenomanian), Taouz area, Morocco like that other crocodile-like tooth I showed here several days ago.. This one is just under 2 3/8 inches (59mm) long with long folds/ridges of what appears to be enamel along its length so I think it's a tooth. Some of the folds end part of the way to the tip. There are spots where these folds are chipped revealing a rather smooth layer. It shows wear at the tip. I think it's some kind of crocodile though it seems rather slender for that and I would expect it to be more hollow (view at the root end provided). I'm wondering it actually belongs to some large fish. Maybe it's an odd spine. @Troodon, @LordTrilobite
  24. The winner of the November 2022 VFOTM goes to... Petalodus ohioensis cartilaginous fish tooth - Upper Pennsylvanian, Harpersville Formation - Coleman County, Texas Congratulations to @EPIKLULSXDDDDD !!!

    Vertebrate or Pseudofossil

Hi all. I was was hoping to get help with this one from the community. It was found in-stream near an outcropping of Pittsburg Bluff in Clatsop County, Oregon, and downstream of some Astoria Formation, both marine sediments. I have found mollusks and arthropods in the same collecting area, usually in very hard concretions. To my knowledge no marine vertebrate fossils have been found within the Pittsburg Bluff Group so if it is vertebrate I'm thinking it came down from the Astoria Formation southwest of the area. It looks and feels like bone, and is extremely porous (tongue sticks). Or it may just be a pseudofossil. Either way, thank you for the help.
