  1. I'm currently experiencing some issues with a brand new central pneumatic air eraser where when I hook it up to an air compressor: 1) air either blows through the air eraser without carrying any powder from the reservoir regardless of whether or not I'm pressing the control button or 2) air simply doesn't blow through it at all I've tried adjusting the screw on top of the reservoir and I've also tried to blow any powder that's stuck on the inside that may be gumming it up but these fixes have not worked. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? If so, how did you fix it? I've only been using this instrument for two days for spraying MgO powder onto trilobites for photography.
  2. It seems that all my equipment is giving me problems lately. The newest aggravation is a hose problem that I'm hoping someone can help me with. I'm getting no air flow from the moisture trap to the pen. I can unscrew the release screw on the trap and it comes out fine, but it won't travel through the hose. I've tried reversing the flow as well as blowing it out at high pressure, but neither works. I've tried pinching the hose to look for blockage, but I can't seem to locate one. This part of the apparatus is not meant for disassembly, so I can't simply disconnect the hose from the trap to see what's going on. Is this fixable, or do I have to locate a replacement part?
  3. I feel like there's a tube missing for my air eraser that goes inside the canister am I wrong
  4. As I'm fairly new to prep, I thought I would "show my work." This is far from anything professional looking. I am also not using a good enough blasting medium. But it does look a bit better. This is a roller found from Penn Dixie. There are still some trouble spots, and some very stubborn stuff on the glabella that just won't blast away. I am using a mix of approaches from needles/picks, Dremel, pliers, and air abrasion. Total time about 40 minutes.

    Air Erasers for Fossil Prep

I would like to up my prepping game as I have nearly maxed out my storage space. It's about time I started to prep a little more seriously than my poor dental picks. As a poor college student, I can't afford a big set up. I was thinking of getting a Paasche AEC-K Air Eraser Kit. Would this setup work? What should I know before going into this?
  6. After prepping my first ammonite I decided it was necessary, before starting another prep, that I would need something to catch all of the dust and debris. So, inspired by ZiggieCie, I went DIY. However, unlike ZiggieCie, I couldn't boast about $0... I had some scrap 3/4" plywood in the garage, which I put to good use. Most everything else I had to purchase specifically for the project. But it gave me the opportunity to buy tools I would need for other projects! I mounted an air manifold to split my air supply between my CP 9361, my Harbor Freight air eraser and an air gun. I hooked my Rigid vacuum into the side to collect the dust. Below is the result... All I need now is some dolomite for the air eraser. I'm planning on picking up a 50 lb. sack from a ceramics store in Houston. I can't wait to get started. I have some other ammonites to get to!

    Air abrasion info?

Hello I am really struggling to figure out the best way to do micro abrasion. All of the units I can find on line all have terrible reviews regarding quality and functionality. Many of them are dental oriented units, which would probably be fine, but they are chinese made and poor quality. Then it seems that without expensive and elaborate water removal systems for your air compressor they wont work anyway. There are obviously zillions of people out there around the world prepping fossils using micro-abrasion and hopefully baking soda but I cant seem to find a system that anyone likes. I am just an amateur collector with some nice specimens that it seems micro-abrasion would be the best prep technique. Many of my finds are from the White River formation in Wyoming. So.... the matrix is no that hard.... any help would be appreciated.
