Could I ask everyone’s opinion. I purchased some Amber from China. I was told it was real, but I am not sure. I tried the salt water test and it does not float with two cups of warm water and a quarter cup of salt. Another piece that was purchased from a reputable seller does float. When I add A lot more salt then it all floats. Can anyone help me? Here are some photos with and without UV light.

I found this in my yard decades ago in Brenham, Tx. However, the previous owner, who had died, was quite the rock collector and left the yard filled with petrified wood, large and small so I don't know where he got them. My family also collects rocks and fossils so I made sure to haul a many as I could when we moved to NY. My question- is this amber on the rock? It's not a fake, it's not glue, but when I google for info it claims amber on wood is very rare. Could anyone tell me what they think? Thank you I added another picture to show what looks like more light colored resin in another area

Hi, I'm Frederick from Brunei & new here. I have found some strange items from the beach (ref attached photos for one of it which I aldy so some polished) and which some ppl said it's Borneo Amber but I found that's not much info or study about it in internet. Definitely it's not agate since it's abit soft (easy to be polished) but harder thn Copal..and it has some kind of scents & more stronger scents if rubbing it. I hv found some of it & their hardest vary... Sound like glass when slightly knock it.. May i know it's an amber or semi fossilized tree resin? Or it's petrified wood with amber? How to justify it?

Hello, I acquired these pieces of "Burmese amber" of Myanmar on an auction site: shipping from China. They have irregular, natural-looking inclusions such as tiny Diptera flies, wasps etc., and feel very lightweight and relatively warm to the touch. However, that fact that they ship from China made me nervous so I did some tests, and I think I'm down to Amber vs. Polystyrene for the following reasons: 1. I did the saltwater test. These pieces float in saturated saltwater, which to my understanding narrows it down to amber, copal and polystyrene. 2. I did the acetone test. Placed a drop on each, let them dry, placed another drop and wiped. They all seemed impervious, no tackiness. Afaik this rules out copal. Unless it also rules out polystyrene? I read that acetone dissolves styrofoam which has polystyrene (https://www.google.com/amp/s/astrocampschool.org/recycling/amp/), but I'm not sure if that applies here as this isn't exactly styrofoam. So now I'm down to amber and polystyrene, which is a pretty specific comparison. I didn't do the hot needle+smell test as I don't want to potentially breathe in harmful material. If acetone doesn't rule out polystyrene does anyone know of a easy test to distinguish these two? Thanks!

I’m a fisherman and I’ve just done a trip on a Beamer trawler. We were fishing 20 miles south of lizard point in Cornwall and caught this in one tow. The skipper and his father both said they’ve seen this before but it’s not common, neither knew what it is exactly. It was in one lump but my fellow crewmen hit it with a rail pin and it split. Can anyone tell me what it is? It’s very pretty and I can see loads of inclusions when I hold fragments up to the light. It also smells strongly of pine.

This is the most incredible piece of amber ever found. its so unbelievable, that nobody takes me serious when i post images of it anywhere. Facebook groups delete it and block me for posting fake fossils. its still attached to about a foot and a half of the original tree that the sap was secreted from. that in itself is very rare and one of a kind. this part that is wood, has high magnetic attraction. the fact that its included with creatures that have never been identified before, neither in amber or out is another unbelievable aspect of this piece. notice the two creatures in blue. both were stuck on the outer most layer of the sap. with only a very thin layer of amber covering their bodies. notice how high above the surface of the amber this dinosaur looking creature got stuck. then, look at the detail of its face... the two images in blue were taken under UV light. this piece was found in north baja mexico. all of the images of creatures oin this post can be found inside this one piece of amber. nothing has been altered or added, only the one photo of the turtle has the red filtered out so that the image of the turtle can be singled out. where can i take this to get documentation authenticating that its real??? open each image to see the complete images. also if your skeptical about the inclusions or the authenticity of this peace, pm me so i can send you a video of the turtle trapped in the middle of this thick chunk of amber. thanks. shawn
