Was looking for fossils in a creek in Florida, and I found a very strange piece of wood that I initially thought was a bone because it was dense/hard. I then noticed there were markings on it that looked unnatural. I’m guessing it could be something Native American but I also know nothing about Native American artifacts. Could someone help me. Also, could anyone id this leg bone and teeth? I’m guessing they are both mammals but I don’t know how to tell which is which, and I’m doubtful either of them are fossilized.

Hello! I am an American paleo grad (Montana State) living in Oslo! I look forward to meeting and talking with you all as I generally use these forums to help me in identifying fossils in a collection I help curate! I finally broke down and made an account after becoming overly frustrated with a few dubious pieces. Cant wait to learn from you all!

If someone has one they may trade PM me! I’ll gladly send some pictures of what I have to see if we can make a deal! Thank you!! -
I have an item that came to me as a gift, without provenance or description. What I know is that it was purchased in a small antique shop in North Carolina about ten years ago i think it *might* be fossil ivory, but can’t be certain. It looks like some photos I’ve seen of smaller mammoth/mastodon tusks, but it’s been so polished that the original surface is all but obliterated. the piece is 12” long, ~5” diameter at its widest and weighs about 8 pounds any ideas or pointers would be most welcome!

B. americana is the Delaware State Fossil. They swam in huge schools and were the base of the food chain in the shallow sea that covered Delaware and New Jersey at the time. This one was found by a surface scan of the loose fossils at the site. They are very common in broken bits and pieces. A whole piece will have a point at the tip and a conically hollow section, the rostrum, at the other end. Whole ones are very rare. This one is nice, however, because it still has its original texture.

(Need Help) Interesting Lizard-shaped fossil with possible inscription?
TennesseeRockHunt posted a topic in Fossil ID
This is a rock/fossil found in grandparents rock bed. I believe it to be a fossilised lizard on top of a rock. When I studied it, I noticed the lizard shape and, on the bottom side, what seemed to be an engraving that looked interesting. I tried to write down the symbols I saw and research them and came up with something similar to the Mayan writing for lizard. Looking for any advice/input on this intriguing piece. Thanks!top view of fossilup-close side view of fossil top-down view of bottom side containing what I believe to be an engravingScreenshot of Mayan representation of a lizard, close to the engraving on the bottom
