Hi there folks. I got this Kosmoceras from Russia but I have no species ID. Judging by the pictures posted in the ammonid page I was thinking about K. spinosum but have no idea if it's possible to determine the species with the specimen I have. Any help woould be much appreciated. Best regards and thanks in advance. =)

Hi there fellow, Bought this from that auction web site and was hoping someone could give me an ID. I know it's been polished and all, so I really don't know what is possible to accomplish with these pictures. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello - I'm new here and would appreciate any insight members of the group can share on the two fossils my daughter found on our beach walk today, in Dublin, Ireland. The shell is 1 inch in diameter. Thanks!

I had a fun hike at the North Sulphur River Texas yesterday. I figured it would be picked over but I found a pretty remote spot with my 4x4. The one sawfish tooth I found in a small creek a few days before. Everything else is from yesterday. It was a great day for Cretaceous coprolite (Poo). @GeschWhat The one coprolite is full of fish verts, bones and fins.

Ammonite: real or fake?
LauraGalicia posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hello! I'm a lover of Ammonites, in particular I adore the ones with the preserved iridescent layer of the mother of pearl. Because I don't have the knowledge and preparation of a professional, I would like to know if this specimen I recently bought is a real one or it is fake, apart from the carving/polishing work it has. Thank you so much!- 15 replies

Could someone please ID the species of this ammonite? It was found at Lyme Regis. Also, could it be a rare species?

Hi, my children and I have never cleaned up a fossil before, but we go to places like kimmeridge, charmouth, Lyme Regis etc a lot as we live not far away, normally we just see the fossils at the beaches and leave them to the experts. Yesterday though on a trip to Charmouth, my son found a large piece he wanted to bring home and clean up (he’s recently been given a rock tumbler and is now fascinated with rocks/fossils etc). We don’t have any tools at the moment but I’m happy to get some simple bits. The warden at Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre suggested he start with sandpaper. Any advice on how we start would be greatly appreciated, thanks. Aimee x

Hey, I got these from online and the description says they are pleuroceras ammonites from the jurassic. I just wanted to be sure if this is correct? Also there's a small belemnite rostrum piece, but I guess it's to small to determine the species? Greetings Henning

Whole black Ammonite, is it real?
Tricky_Tink posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
I picked these up today for super cheap and would like to gift them to a picky collector I know. Color is actually very black pictures seem to lighten it significantly. If any of you have any knowledge on these I'd appreciate your opinion. I also got 2 little ones from same man liquidating his deceased aunts house along with a really great vacuum! The large one is whole. The 2 pieces are 3" each and are only halves -

Found two interesting cephalapods on the Blanco River in Central Texas. I have never found nautiloids in my area, but I looked up as much info as I could find, but only two are found in Cretaceous. So I am thinking this is a Cymatoceras? Perhaps Cimomia Angustus? That was one I found online that looked a bit like this one. Any help of ID would be appreciated. The little grey imbedded ammonite is also unusual to me since it is so small, most of what I have found are much much larger.

Tonight, I started a block that iv had for quite some time, and being dying to prep. Annoyingly, the split from the nodule was very poor, cause a few different cracks, all the way through the ammonite. I glued this back up two days ago and let it set before starting prep. I couldn’t wait to get home from work today, so I could begin the real work. Prep photos to follow in the comments as I can’t size down these files any more

From the album: Holzmaden
A kinda interesting combination out of an ammonite, a belemnite and a partial Ichtyosaur rib. It wasn't very difficult to prep but all in all it took about 3 hours. The belemnite is about 10 cm long and the partial rib is about 11 cm long. I found this one last year in the quarry Kromer near Holzmaden. Some more pictures: And the unprepped rib:- 2 comments

Hi everybody. I made an exchange with someone who gave me that ammono-gastero fossil. The ammonite has 7 centimeters of circumference and the gasteropod 2,5 centimeters. All the information i have is that they must be from the Callovian stage, and i think they are from Britanny, in the North-West of France.
