    Ludwigia murchisonae?

Got this at Bearreraig bay on the Isle of skye a few years ago and have always just assumed the ammonites are all the same species and Ludwigia murchisonae but decided to seek some clarification on this, any help would be much appreciated (the biggest ammonite is 10.5cm)

  20. When the wheels of industry grind to a halt, one looks for ways to occupy their time while on the clock. I was recently trained on using a scanning electron microscope, but I felt like I needed more practice . I've been wanting to see how some of my fossils might look at high magnification, soooooooooo...... First, I tried an Engonoceras serpentinum (the one on the right) that I recently found in the Waco Research Pit. Under the microscope, it looks like this... I also checked out a pyritized ammonite that my wife found. Under the microscope, it looked like this... This was fun, but it got me thinking. The more highly damaged, pyritized ammonite seems to have a different crystal structure than the better preserved Engonoceras. Could it be that one is pyrite and the other marcasite? Or has the more damaged specimen simply oxidized from pyrite to a different mineral form? Or are the crystals simply more tightly packed on the Engonoceras and therefore I'm just unable to tell that the minerals have the same general shape? Thanks for enduring my stream of consciousness...

    Ammonite

From the album: Whitby Discoveries, England

Ammonite outside of Matrix. As you can see these things are very fragile and this one was already broken when I removed it from the slate. (Someone had obviously tried before me and broke it then moved on without recovering it.)

    Ammonite inprint noodle

From the album: Whitby Discoveries, England

Found from the noodles cast down from the cliffs. Please note the cliffs are dangerous so just pick up the fossils washed up on the beach.

    Ammonite in matrix

From the album: Whitby Discoveries, England

Due to the delicacy of the ammonites found in the slate I like to keep them in-bedded in their natural matrix.

  25. A nice day fossil hunting at The North Sulphur River and surrounding creeks. I found a load of Mosasaur bones and one cool old bottle from the 1930s. One Mosasaur vert was a lucky find. I saw a lump in the red zone and wanted to try out my new rock hammer and it turned out to be a vert. The Mosasaur Angular with the shark feeding marks in the second pic was my favorite find of the day.
