Hi These are some stones I Found in Middle Georgia in Bibb County. I'm new at fossils and I feel like all of these stones where tools of some sort. So any opinions are very welcome amd appreciated. The one that resembles a snake head appears to me. That it may have been made from the Upper Jaw of A petrified Frilled Shark. I could be very wrong I'm not sure but the details on the side that wasn't smoothed looks to me just like one. Thank You for all your opinions. I look forward to reading them

With the end of the semester approaching, school has picked up and I have been too busy to embark on many adventures. When my schedule finally cleared up one afternoon following a brief rain in Austin, I jumped at the opportunity to do a bit of exploring. One of my goals right now is to check out new parts of the creek I hunt on. Scanning through my list of potential spots, I decided to try and be the first one out to a very promising location. Like my previous hunts, this place ran through the Ozan formation, so my expectations were set on some nice Cretaceous specimens as well as the usual n

New Member/Fossil Hunter. Looking to ID some NSR and Austin Fossils/Artifacts!
EPIKLULSXDDDDD posted a topic in Fossil ID
Hi everyone! I'm a newer member to the fossil hunting community. I first started as a little kid, but have only really gotten into it over the pandemic as a hobby. I've done some hunting up around Dallas where I'm originally from, visiting famous spots like NSR and POC. For college, I'm currently living in Austin and have checked out a few nearby spots. These past few months I've been frequenting a local creek that runs through the Ozan layer and have been finding some cool fossils/artifacts. The items I am showing you today are collected from two places. The first assortment (lots- 14 replies

Hey all, I've been on the fence about this tooth. It was a beach find (Venice, FL), so I think it is a little damaged and tumbled. Could the root be notched on one side? (The other side looks broken off.) Is the center boring potentially natural? Many thanks!

Everyone said NSR was dry and picked over but I hiked 9 hrs and found some cool stuff. My favorites are the Protostega costal bone with partial rib head preserved, the mosasaur bone with bite mark and the artifacts. I walked in tracks all day but the river is too large for someone to get everything and people miss quite a bit.

My 29th trip to Big Brook may well have been my best yet. Instead of my two usual entry points I entered by an unnamed tributary I found on a map. It was small and narrow and overgrown and clearly not the “road” most traveled. Probably the least shark teeth I’ve ever found: photo of 5 below. Picked up several broken bottle bottoms with writing which I get a kick out of including an unbroken Vicks Vaporub! I found a bunch of bone most of which I probably deer but the dark wide one is likely not. Below is a photo of what I think is the first bear footprint I’ve ever seen there. Probably wron

This weekends quick trip yielded a possible 3rd arrow head from the area as well as my best fish teeth to date. Nice chunk of bone with 4 teeth intact!

I kayaked for five miles on a day with a heat index of 108 degs and found some killer stuff. The Paleo Dalton point made my day. Rare to find mosasaur in this creek but I still managed to find a few verts. The big nautilus was beat up but looks good in my rock garden. The old bottle is a duraglas bottle from 1953.

My man cave is coming along nicely. Most are personal finds from Northeast Texas. A few were gifts or purchases.

I had a pretty decent hunt recently. The highlight was bending over to pick up a section of mammoth tooth and as I was spotting the arrowhead less than 12" away.

Fun hunt yesterday. I found some huge broken sawfish teeth, shark teeth, enchodus jaw and teeth, mosasaur verts, big heart clam which I've never found in the Sulphur river area and a killer petrified wood Gary point. It got hot around 2PM so I got out early.

Look like today was going to be one of the last mild temperature days with highs only in the low 90's, before things began to heat up again here in Northeast Texas, North Sulphur River area. Went out to an area I have visited in the past but found a creek that was new to me. I was surprised to find some rather impressive fossils right out in the open. One nice mosasaur vertebrae, fish vertebrae, jaw bone, large bone pieces that may be remains of larger worn vertebrae, and a couple of artifacts.

Fun morning Northeast Texas hike with a heat index of almost 110 degs by the time I left after lunch. The Tylosaur vert is worn but huge and weighs close to 2 lbs. The Tylosaur jaw section was almost buried as you can tell from the in situ pic. The artifacts were a nice little bonus. I waked in tracks for over half the day so I would love to see what the first guy found.

North Sulphur River-Sunday Afternoon- Fossils/Artifacts
rcranch posted a topic in Fossil Hunting Trips
Took advantage of the unusual cooler weather today to visit the North Sulphur River in northeast Texas. Several rain storms over the last few weeks have moved stuff around but the flow now is pretty slow. Walked the main channel a few hundred feet near the water with no luck, so decided to try the dryer areas hoping something has been missed by previous fossil hunters. Finally came across a few vertebrae pieces and then found an intact Mosasaur vert. However, the finds of the day were artifacts as I went down the river. The last one was the biggest and best one I have ever found on the NS -
Any ideas if these are artifacts or just rocks?

This was sold as an arrowhead at an antique store near Huntsville, Alabama. (That is all the information I have on the locality.) I’m wondering if there is a partial plant fossil in it?

My finds from North Sulphur River near Ladonia on Saturday, December 22. The weather was great, the water was low and competition was moderate. Pleasant surprise finding an arrowhead. The little vert and the plate-like bone were both found near the Hwy 34 bridge.

I had a fun trip looking for shark teeth and artifacts yesterday at the North Sulphur River Texas. I found a large Enchodus tooth, nice shark tooth, mosasaur jaw section, other assorted fossils and some cool artifacts. Weather was perfect.

Had another opportunity to hit the North Sulfur after several good rains. Once again, fresh rock bars everywhere and my buddy and I went home with our pockets full! I found at least 15 mosasaur verts, 20+ teeth, a nice coprolite, shark vert, etc.. I included a few pictures of some of my better stuff. The 5 points pictured together were found in the NSR They include a couple killers! For the old, pointy rock hunters, I included a pic of all the points from this weekend. Found 20+ in one spot in Fannin county that was clearly a large Caddo camp. Enjoy! Just a thought... I get asked a

I got in a 3 hr hunt before the rain and flooding. Once the water started coming up I had to make a quick exit but still got wet. I managed to find a few things.

Due to the hurricane I got an extra day off from offshore so I hit the North Sulphur River for a few hours. I found a nice big Tylosaur vert, small mosasaur vert, fish ribs, arrowhead and a big Native American chopper tool. The arrowhead is ugly but I like it lol.
