Greetings, Found what appears to be a fossilized backbone segment. Location is San Antonio, TX, but this location may not be relevant, as this specimen was found in imported decorative rock along a community sidewalk. Incidentally, this is the same decorative rock where I found part of a mammoth tooth, which was previously reviewed here. This item weighs 5.4 oz, or 153 grams. There appears to be cancellous or trabeculae bone throughout, with what appears to be nerve channels. I've cleaned the item with warm water and a soft toothbrush. Your review and evaluation is appreciated.

While searching the rocks at lowtide this week, near Whitby I came across this. While most people may dismiss this as a round rock, I have found afew before so recognised it for what it was. A large backbone encased in rock. I took it back home and using my airpen removed the rock from one side of the vert. I have kept the other side and edges with matrix, because I already have afew fully matrix free. This is the largest backbone I have found so far.

The Vertebra Appreciation Thread : Show Some Back-Bone!

I love a good vertebra. I have a hard time ID'ing some of the ones I find, but I love them nonetheless. It occurred to me that I have a lot of vertebrae laying around. From tiny critters like baby turtles and snakes, to big critters like whales. I was going through my boxes today, looking for something unrelated, and I kept running across vertebrae. So, tomorrow when the lighting is better (it's dark here now and I'm tired), I am going to lay out all of the vertebrae I have found over the years and take a group photo. Before I share my verts, let's see what you have! Show us your favorite verts! I'll post mine tomorrow. -
My grandfather found this on their farm in the early 1900s.

Hi all! I recently purchased this dinosaur bone from an estate sale in Maryland USA. I think it looks like a vertebrae, but I’m not sure if I’m right. Does anyone know what it is, or even what it came from? It weighs 1.475lbs and was labeled from the Jurassic period (although the person that labeled it is a gemologist, not a geologist so it was his best guess after researching). The tape measurer pictured is in inches, I could not find one with centimeters. Thanks for any help!!!

Alright, last one for today! Picked up this concretion-ish piece and noticed the backbone type impression in it. I know its probably nothing, but danged if every time I look at it I see segmented vertebrae from a tail or something. I know this is wishful thinking, but what do you all think?

I found this on the Frio river bed by Uvalde, Tx and it looks like a vertabra of some kind. Rather large and it has the common shape and segments. Here’s a picture

I doubt these two fossils are from the animal. I'm not sure that they can be identified as to what animal they may have come from. They came from the same site as previous pieces near Houston Texas in a dredging operation. If anyone can identify them it would be greatly appreciated/ Thanks in advance

This fossil looks to be part of a spine. Any ideas on what animal it may have come from? It was found and recovered near Houston Tx. It was dredged like others I have inquired about here on this forum. Thanks in advance for any light you might shed on this mystery fossil.
