Identification help, the microscope picture is pretty bad but it is a handheld and my cell phone, hopefully this helps though. I rinsed this stone in a 70% muriatic acid and water solution, initially it was smooth but once rinsed with the acid water solution it became very rough like sandpaper. The crystals that have been exposed on the surface jut outwardly, perpendicular from the surface, some are tetragonal or trclinic and some are orthorhombic or monoclinic in shape, it is hard to tell with my microscope.

I love my backyard, I don' love being clueless as to where the previous owners purchased the rocks from. I am fairly positive that they are a mixture of at least two different styles, one of which I know is a river or lake mixture. (I was able to get one person on another forum to tell me they look like possibly Michigan Lakes stones) What I did not know, is that coral and sponge could be found in fresh water sources, any body an expert in this sector? Or if you have any opinions on the Lake Michigan suggestion, please let me know what you think. When I am more familiar with the different forums and navigation of everything, I will make sure to post the ones that I have been assured are coral specimens.

The community I live in was once a farmstead in Rowan County, North Carolina. I believe a section of my yard was once a creek bed. The other day I found one of my dogs playing with this item and after spending hours trying to find anything that looked remotely like this, I’ve come up empty and decided to ask you all. The object is hard, like rock, does not rattle, it’s approximately 1.75 x .75 inches. It’s coloring is almost flesh tone, with darker gray areas and yellowish parts inside the more damaged area. The space at first glance looking fetus like, and there seems to be a little wrinkled piece that looks tail or appendage like. I thought maybe a petrified seed or nut but so far nothing I’ve looked at fits. What do you think? Thanks, J

Hello everyone. I would like to first say thank you all for having me and please feel free to give me any advice on how I can make my posts better so that all can enjoy. Several years back I started finding literally tons of fossils in my back yard which was the catalyst to my newfound interest. Having said that, the only ones I have been able to identify myself were the dozens and dozens of ammonites, most of which I used in my 9ft, mostly fossil, backyard fireplace which came out amazingly. I would like to start by trying to have this little guy identified if at all possible. I first thought it to be petrified wood but the more I research the more I doubt that idea. I live in North Texas directly on the wise county & denton county boundary. Again, thank you all for accepting me in this circle and I hope to learn as much as I can as I am deeply interested in this subject but horribly uninformed.
