One of the best preserved and complete ammonites I have ever found. The shell is perfectly intact as well as the lappets. This is the microconch to Stephanoceras sp.

Bigotites (Prorsisphinctes) pseudomartinsi (Siemiradszki 1899)
Ludwigia posted a fossil in Ammonoids
This specimen was found on a plowed field. It is practically complete with well-preserved shell. A small portion of the venter on the outer whorl between 1 & 3 o'clock was missing and was restored with modelling clay and touched up with water colors. Tube worms and oysters settle on the inner whorls of the reverse side, probably after death and deposition, which indicates which side was up on the ocean floor. -

The quality of preservation of the fossils at this world famous site is outstanding. This sample is practically complete, just missing the last portion of the body chamber. It gives its species name to both the lithographical unit and the zone. Lithography: "Humphresie-Bank/Schichten" Old German Chronostratigraphy: Dogger(Braun Jura) delta This ammonite is the index fossil for its zone. It has an anomaly which can clearly be seen on the outer whorls at 9 o'clock. The external side is then exposed more than usual until it returns to normal at 3 o'clock. The small remnant of shell from the outer whorl of the body chamber from thereon shows how large the ammonite actually was. Literature: Ottiger,R. (2014): Fossiliensuche im Tafeljura. Greetings, The attached ammonite is from a locality of known Middle Bajocian (Middle Jurassic) age in British Columbia. It was found in direct association with professionally-identified specimens of Skirroceras, a subgenus of Stephanoceras. The diameter is about 30mm. I realize there is not much to go on here, since the venter is not exposed. It is involute, with dense, sharp ribs and a very narrow umbilicus. Any thoughts?
