I have aquired a slab of rock that has a Barasaurus in it. Not sure if thats the correct name or not. Ive taken a close up of what is exposed, circled in white. Im afraid this is the head? Would so much have wanted the head end in the rock instead of the tail end. What do you guys think? Thanks

So, I thought I would share this topic with you all. This is going to be the beginning of a long thread with any luck. This is the first one I have prepared, coming close to the end. It's turned out ok. I feel it could be better, While looking at multiple examples, and studying the bone through journals, previously prepped specimens, and other resources is great. It's a completely different game, learning to prepare first hand, and the differences in each nodule affecting position and rotation of the bones. So a friend of mine contacted me saying he had some unprepared

Barasaurus besairiei from Madagascar
Crazyhen posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Is this specimen a Barasaurus besairiei from Madagascar? Is it genuine? I have seen quite a number of these specimens imported from Madagascar to China but most of them were headless. But more recently, most of the imported specimens are rather complete with head. They are mostly in the form of split nodules, and so it seems like they are genuine. Any views?- 5 replies

Hello, a few months ago I recieved a fossil from the mines from Madagascar; a Barasaurus ( Perm ) It took a lot of trial and error to prep this fossil and I had to keep gluing parts that got lose. the matrix was very challenging, sometimes extrmely hard, and sometimes very soft end the bones were brittle. the fossil was a real challenge, but I got to the end.
