Hi.. I got some isolated tooth of bat probably 4 to 5 different species of Chiropteran due to similarity its being difficult for me to identify their species. I am looking for an expert to help me out to identify or guide me or share some helpful material. Any help will be highly appreciated.

I suppose owls took that niche but bats have been around since the Eocene. It seems odd that they never developed into large=prey predators.

Hello Fossil Forum, I've been interested in bat fossils from the Messel pit as well as one of the bigger Amphibians from the Permian since quite a while. As both are expensive items I don't want to make a mistake. I've found very little information about these fossils, especially for collectors, on the web. Interesting and useful information I found from @oilshale, like the one that Messel bats tend to show either good bone OR skin preservation. What should a good specimen feature and what should be avoided? Especially since both kind of fossils require special preparation techniques. As for Sclerocephalus, the following one is on display since many months, so I assume it's relatively expensive. It looks very good to me but what do the experts think about it? In every case I'm curious for the Munich Show next weekend as there have been examples of both fossils in the past. Thanks!

Hello! This is an attempt at helping ID a few small marsupials, rodents, bats and reptiles from Kempsey in central NSW Australia. Note: Some of these animals may not be found in the area anymore as the deposits they were found in are from 2 mya - 15 thousand years. If you would like any more info on the site or the fossils feel free to ask. I will be posting them in rounds of whatever I feel like And also sorry about the bad pictures. Please let me know if you would like me to re-take them. 1. Ghost Bat (Macroderma gigas) Extinct where these fossils were found (Right lower jaw and upper canine) 2. Other micro bats ( Partial skull, lower jaw w/ 2nd and 3rd lower molars, one isolated molar in jaw) 3. Sugar Gliders (Petaurus breviceps) right and left maxilla (non associated)
