Found a weird fossil "chunk" (4 by 2 cm, about 1 cm thick) that appears to have skin imbedded in it (part looks like leather with fine creases and lines). Curious as to ideas what it might be ? (I also default to turtle, but have no real clue). Thanks!

I found this on Edisto Beach, South Carolina near the point where the Edisto River flows into ST. Helena Sound. I am not even certain it is a fossil, but doing a GOOGLE Lens search, found similar images on this site. It is hard with a rough surface. There is a piece of a shell stuck in what seems like a midline on one side of it. Any clue would be appreciated.

Hi, we found this rock on a local beach where a cliff is being eroded. It had a small fossil pattern exposed on one edge. We’ve broken it open and found a shell of some sort. I would love help to identify it. New Zealand, South Island, West Coast thank you i don’t know how to reply to anyone! Sorry. I’ve put more detailed photos up but not sure if they’re helpful Also apologies that the rules say your hand shouldn’t be in the pics

Hello I found this fossil on the beach shore of Lake Huron just north of Port Sanilac, Michigan while visiting. Can someone help identify what it is and maybe how old it is? The fossil image itself is about 3 & 1/2 inches long by 1 & 1/2 inches wide, it appears to have legs on the sides and fins in the back. Thank you!

Hi, I have been combing the beaches of Topsail Island for years and this is the first trip that turned up multiple large finds. Usually my biggest find is the size of a nickel. This year I found over ten that I consider noteworthy…which is strange in itself. But I am having a lot of trouble identifying one in particular. I have attached a few pictures of the tooth in question here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Usually my finds are very common…tiger, sand tiger, great white, bull, etc. but for some reason, this year turned up many ancient and worn pieces. Any opinions on why so many turned up this year vs. previous years would be appreciated too. I can only assume that maybe the coast was recently dredged, and this made older pieces become beached (??)

Found this very small possible fossil on a beach near Charleston, SC. The island where it was found is a former dredge spoils site with contents from the bottom of Charleston Harbor. Would love some help to ID this curious little thing. Thank you!

Both of these were found on the beach in South Carolina. They may have nothing in common but have similar characteristics to my eye. The first is approximately 2cm while the second is closer to 3cm. Both are symmetrical though the second is not complete. I look forward to hearing just how far off I am!

This bone was found on the beach this morning. It was at the shoreline. I’ve included photos but this is my first post so please let me know if other information is needed. The piece measures 7-10cm. Clearly it is very worn so I don’t know if identification is possible. Any ideas are welcome and appreciated

Hello, Sometimes I collect shells from the beach and the other day I found the one in these pictures. My friend thinks it may be a shark tooth but it looks unlike other shark teeth I've seen. If you have any idea what it may be please let me know! Thank you.

Hi. I am over the moon with this find. I usually find only find 10-20 teeth on the beach each summer. I have only found 3 teeth all summer on the beach. Mainly because I am spending more time with the kids than searching. But tonight was low tide…. Three steps into looking….. so excited it’s 1 inch and perfect!!!!!

Interesting Find from the Lake Michigan Shore, Northern Michigan
bockryan posted a topic in Fossil ID
Hello everyone - I have a (hopefully) interesting find from the Lake Michigan shoreline around the Leelanau peninsula in Northern Michigan, which I think is likely Devonian in age. It might be difficult to see from the pictures, but there are some small crystals within some of the gaps. Coral? Crinoid? Mollusk/brachiopod internal mold? Geologic? None of the above?- 4 replies

Thought this was a misc bone but then I noticed 3 “sockets”. And on the interior side it looks like teeth markings. Or maybe I just want to believe it’s a jaw bone! Any help would be appreciated.

These two items were found sifting for shark teeth on a beach near Venice Florida. Ruler is in inches, sorry. The larger I believe is a tooth from a herbivore. I'm new and not sure how to differentiate, or if it may be from something else. The smaller one looked like a piece of crab pincher to me, but has a row of round hollows that correspond to the thickness of the piece as it tapers. (Tooth sockets?) The break at the larger end appears to be hollow/filled with sediment.? The tip appears broken off and hollow as well. There are ridges along the length, and it is slightly curved.(I tried to get it all in the pics) Is this likely a fish or small reptile? Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

I just finished going through some fossils I'd found on the beach here in eastern North Carolina, and I don't know what any of these are. If y'all had any idea, would you please let me know? Thank you! The last picture is of a couple of my favorite finds I have found; a tapir tooth and what I believe to be mouthparts of a porcupine fish.

Here is an avian coracoid that I found on the beach in South Carolina. It is from an unidentified off-shore formation that regularly deposits Pleistocene fossils on the shore. I am hoping that someone @Auspex can ID it to genus perhaps. Thanks for looking.

Two additional items found on Manasota Key beach south of Venice, Florida. Item one (3 pictures) is apparently a tooth about 2 cm in width. Any suggestions on what it belonged to? Item two might be a bit of tortoise shell, but I'm not sure, (2 pictures). The concave side of item two shows porous structure I've found in other fragments of bone. Confirmation? Thanks!
