So I decided that I would finally make a point of documenting some of these back country field excursions, and made a Youtube channel to keep the videos all in one place. Here's a a rather ordinary extraction of a placenticeras ammonite found the day before we did a little field work with some paleontologists. The GoPro is a fun addition to my kit, and makes it a lot easier to document the actual process of finding and extracting these things in the field. The stuff from the Bearpaw formation no one talks about

These came to my personal collection from an auction at a high school that shut down. Normally I prefer to dig my own, but these were too cool to ignore at a buck each. I got lots of other science stuff too! Nothing like picking up a few goodies on the side while buying glassware and microscopy stuff for work!- 36 replies

This concretion was actually from a fossil trip last year. Its two ammonites in one rock but the bigger ammo has half of its beak right in front of the appature. Amazing. These are known as Rhaeboceras halli and are from the Bearpaw Shales of eastern Montana. He brought it over to my garage and wants me to 'clean' it up. RB

Found these in the Bearpaw formation along the banks of the Oldman river near Lethbridge, Alberta. I know it's a hail-mary, but can anyone venture a guess?
