  1. I was just going through my unread on the forum when I found the show us your rarest shark tooth thread. As I was scrolling through this thread I noticed at least two different species of Parotodus, which I found strange, as I was only aware of Parotodus Benedini. So what are the other species of the genus Parotodus and how do you distinguish between them?

    Some SC Threshers/Benedinis? for ID

Recently picked up a small handful of Thresher shark teeth from South Carolina - there’s 3 I’m not sure on the ID of. First is this one - which was labeled as P. benedini - measures just over 1”/3.25cm The second - thinking A. Grandis? Also just over 1”. And finally - forgot to take more pics of this one, but it’s closer to C. Planus, which I don’t believe exists in SC, so I’m not sure what it is. Person I got it from confirmed they found it themselves - also just over 1”. @Al Dente @hemipristis @Shellseeker Any help would be appreciated!
  3. So - saw the newly resurrected Alopias Grandis thread, and looking through I found the Elasmo guide. Anyway - one of my threshers, that I had labeled A. latidens - doesn’t quite seem to fit latidens. So… is it latidens? Grandis? P. benedini? It’s got a much more curved crown, and a very slightly different root. It measures 18mm in slant height.@hemipristis @Al Dente So here it is on the bottom - my other threshers are on top and look quite different: And pics of just it:
  4. Hi everyone! I recently got this Paratodus Benedini tooth from South Carolina. It appears to be around 2'4 inch big and my question is it 100% real? I do want to know if this one is genuine before actually doing it of course. Thank you for the comments in advance!

    Unknown shark tooth?

Hi, I found this tooth in South Carolina earlier this summer and was wondering what it was, right now I’m thinking desori or bene(I’m hoping its a benedini, but I don’t know how realistic that is)

    Parotodus sp.

Hi everyone, This is a tooth I'm looking to purchase from a merchant. They identify it as a Parotodus Sp. tooth - it's 1" long and was found in Morocco. My first question would be, is Parotodus Sp. the same thing as Parotodus Benedini or are they somehow different? Secondly, and because I'm purchasing it either way for my collection, I'd like to make sure this is in fact a Parotodus Sp. tooth. I'm suspicious because, from what I've seen of other Benedini teeth, the root is meant to make up a much larger part of the total tooth. Here, the root seems relatively small in comparison to the blade. Thank you!

    parotodus benedini vs priemi

Hi guys weird question here, what is the difference between parotodus benedini and parotodus priemi, i cant find the name of the person who originally described the Priemi variant so i was wondering whether it was just a mistake that got passed along. However, it might be right that it is a different species as i have only heard of P.Priemi coming from the london clay of the UK and Benedini is more widespread. All answers welcome, thanks for your help

    Benedini or Mako?

Hello all! I am hoping someone can give me a definitive answer about this tooth I found. Is this a Benedini or a Mako? Fyi, its less than a tenth of an inch from being 3 inches.

    Unusual Markings Shark Tooth

Hi, This question is between categories. Has anyone seen markings (numbers) on a shark tooth like this? I have tried to wipe them off with acetone, and they will not come off. Any idea how they were applied or how to remove them?

    Family Fun Bakersfield

First time on the forum. Went to Bakersfield with my family and my sister’s family for 2 days. Found a bunch of shark teeth including a Benedini.
  11. I recently got into buying shark teeth I just bought my first Megalodon tooth this week! I was seeing Benedini shark teeth as well, these are very expensive for their size. I can’t seem to find much information when I google benedini, what is this species of shark, and what makes these so rare?
