I don't know if others have posted about this already so I thought it would be a good warning and reminder to those who hunt the Peace River. This past Sunday a thirteen year old girl was swimming in the Peace River near the Gardner Boat Ramp when she was attacked by a large alligator. It happened around 2:30 in the afternoon. Luckily, the girl managed to get away from the gator but it did bite her on the arm. Florida Fish and Wildlife confirmed the attack.
The alligators are more active this time of year. With that, the water level and flow rate I don't hunt the river this time of year. When I do hunt I am always on the lookout for resident reptiles that call the river home. I had the surprise in the spring of a snake falling out of an overhanging tree and bouncing off my head!
