I received this little partially prepped oreodont skull from an old paleontologist I've connected with and I noticed these two spots on it. Are they just conveniently placed holes? Or are they a bite mark? And if so, from what?

Found on Myrtle Beach. I'm thinking this is some sort of whale bone, perhaps rib. Agree? And I don't want to read too much into cracks in this bone, but could they be shark bites? Thanks! - Paula

Fossil hunting has become a bit of a challenge in my area, even though I'm using the spray. The chiggers were late coming this year (long cold winter?) but now that they've been going for about a month I must say their population seem especially high and more vicious than previous years. I have bites from head to toe. Is anyone else experiencing this? (No need to actually show your bites as they often occur in the nether regions of the body.)

Off topic but I know there are a lot of people that do Peace River here.....

Yesterday we hunted in Peace River up in Wauchula. We both got bitten several times from these tiny 1/4" long worm like creatures. I have seen them in the past when I picked up a rock from the bottom of the river, but have never noticed getting bit by them. Anyone know what they are? Yuk!
