    polished dinosaur bone

Hello again, Last year I found this chunck of dinosaur leg bone in the Boulonnais, North of France. Jurassic sediments. See this topic: I just polished a small piece and I am very happy with the result. I made a comparison with a picture from the internet of a duck-billed dinosaur on the left and my piece on the right. You can see the growth lines! source: http://scienceblogs.com/notrocketscience/2008/08/06/duckbilled-dinosaur-defended-itself-by-outgrowing-predators/

    Some more Florida bone scraps

Have half-heartedly been watching the super bowl and going thru some garage boxes simultaneously trying to put some more detailed names to some bone scraps that are from Florida that I've picked up in the past couple years. Mio/Plio-Pleistocene. 1) Seems to be the end of a long bone with half of the joint broken off...chunk is 52mm long...has a 37mm diameter for the half circular end. I'm guessing too small for a horse...maybe a llama/deer? Its pretty worn/broken but wondering if there is anything that may give a clue to its owner? 2) Has a thick stubby worn look to it but seems to flare out towards a non worn end. I suppose it could be the end of a bone but thats out of my league. Any chance its actually a pisiform? 35mm thick, 40mm wide, 50mm long 3) Seems to have different features/look/texture to it on every side. I'm not sure if I'm seeing different wear patterns or maybe its unworn and those are functional/diagnostic features? Is does to appear to have a small semi-flat ridge crescent shape on one side of it. Could this be another type of pisiform? 11mm wide along the crescent. 14mm thick, 40mm long. Think I've exhausted my guessing for the evening. Any comments/help are/is welcomed. Thanks! EDIT---looks like my experimenting with panorama continues to cause problems...for some reason they look fuzzy in the post but when you do full size they look better. I can add individual photos if any of these prove to be worthy of such scrutiny.....will hold off for now. Regards, Chris
  3. Hello everyone, I found this fossil while combing the beach the other day. I am trying to figure out what it could be. At first I thought whale, but it seems small for a whale bone.
  4. This dinosaur fossil is about the about 12 " long and I am not sure what part it is from. I was wondering if anyone could help me identify it.

    Bite Marks?

Hi all, I recently went to Sharktooth Hill and collected a few bones and plenty of teeth. Wondering if there are bite marks on this small bone. There are three deep grooves on the bone which I suspect are bite marks. May be wrong though.

    Is This A Bone?

I found this while walking my dog around my neighborhood here in Albuquerque. It was sitting in pile of river rock. The bumps make it look like a bone to my amateur eyes. Any ideas? I'll post more photos in a reply, let me know if you need more. Thank you to all who leave a comment! I've only been on this forum for less than a day and it's helped me out so much already. All of you are awesome!

    Is this a fossil?

Hey guys, I'm new to this site. I'm hoping someone can help me identify some fossils I've found here in central Texas recently. I've done some research and found out that the fossils here are mostly from the Cretaceous period. I was walking around in a creek bed today with two of my kids and we found some things that look like old bones. I'm obviously unsure of what they are and would really appreciate some feedback. Thank's, Ben P.

    Please don't be human

Hey everyone! I was looking for fossils again with two of my kids and we came across a few bones scattered across the creek bank. I'm seriously hoping this is NOT a human arm bone. It's obviously not a fossil. Thoughts? Should I call the cops? Should I just chillax? Also, am I a weirdo for picking it up and rolling it up in my sweatshirt?

Piece of bone need help identifying

Another Arkansas river find a bone I can not identify. Any help would me great. Thanks. Found in Arkansas city kansas on the river.
  11. Hello everyone! Today I'm fighting with this special piece !. I have been doing a lot of comparisons with other similar remains, but unfortunately there is very little published. It comes from the Cenomanian stage, of the Cretaceous region of KemKem (South of Morocco). Concretely of the red sandstones of the Aoufous Formation. Of the basal levels, really difficult to differentiate from the Ifezouane Formation (with much more sandy nature than the clays of the Aoufous Formation). I forgot the scale at pictures! Sorry! It measures long: 32mm = 1.25 Inch It looks a lot like pterosaur cervical vertebrae. It has some very special characteristics! I would like anyone who wishes to contribute with their opinion. Help is always welcome!

    Mammal tooth

Found a lot of stuff on the Arkansas River today. I found a small tooth as well as everything in posting. Thought it was from a deer but all the pics don't look exactly like it.

    Few more pieces

Another Arkansas river find a large hunk of antler and some small bones. From what I can tell they are not fully fossilized since the antler is soft on the break up top. The small bones are what I'm wondering about.

    Bones-Possible Pterosaur

I have finally found the courage to display just 3 of the fossils that I have...as I am just a "baby" in terms of even the novice hobbyists. I cannot guarantee that they are all completely clear of matrix material. I am concerned that my as of yet limited knowledge, could/would likely negatively affect the "Arrested Beauty" that has been set before us; as a "annal" before before written language. These fossils were found at home, in my backyard near Maple Valley in King County Washington. As I have said before, I am new at this, but as far as I can tell from the limited information I have found in my search for clues, the area where I live has formations from the Mesozoic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. My best educated guess (if you can call mine educated), is that at least number 1 and 2 (from left to right) are foot/hand bones from a Pterosaur. I am fairly confidant that #3 is one end of a femur. Unsure of the animal given that to me, they all look so very similar. I am absolutely not confident enough to make a guess as to the specific species. I am skeptical of my general assessment, given that I have found no evidence that any other fossils of the like have been found in the area; immediate or otherwise. I have also found what I believe to be small diameter pieces of fossilized ivory/tusk here. With that being said, please be gentle. I keep talking myself out of even posting these out of fear of making yet another fool of myself (only in a different way). I defer to my much much more experienced peers. Please do let me know if any other angles, etc. are needed for identification.

    Dugong rib predation marks?

I noticed that fossil dugong rib bones from Florida often have boring worm holes in them, though these are not predators per se, and have heard that shark marks can be found. Any other kinds of marks I should look out for? How common is it to find shark bite marks on the ribs?

Would like for you to ID these

Sorry about this being my 2nd post(introduction was the first) but I really have no idea what I'm doing. I picked up a box lot of mineral and fossil specimens recently. Primarily for the goniatite fossil that was included. In that lot, I found a few pieces labeled "dinosaur bones" and one piece that looked to be a tooth, only in shape, and a mystery piece. I'm hoping that you can id these for me. These are keeper pieces for me just because they are very cool. The first owner was kind enough to glaze the pieces with a high gloss protectant. I would also love to remove that. Thanks Dave
