not sure what this is or if its even a fossil ... it actually looks like a dried up turd but it actually is stone I will be posting these pics of it dry, well mostly . I will then post a set of pics of it wet. Then I will post close ups of certain points on it. It was found in a gravel pile from the Brazos River west of Houston Tx. measures just shy of 4 inches long and one and a half inch wide.

found this small stone with what seems to be a worm on it ... is there such thing as a worm fossil? I have heard of worm castings but this is different. the last three pics are a closer view. gravel load from brazos river west of houston texas

Location: West of Houston TX found in gravel load from Brazos River... Possible tooth fragment?...at first I thought it may be wood but the but the markings in pic 000_0609.JPG resemble that of Mammoth teeth. Not saying that is what this is just yet but I can hope can't I?. there is no roots and it is worn pretty smooth from the river and part is broken away....I also found bone fragments and will post the largest in my next post.

possible shark poo? the one on the right the larger of the two is worn and weathered have doubts on that one but the one on the left with the broken ends found some interesting things embedded in it will post then in next post. both appear to look wrapped or spiral bith from gravel load from Brazos River west of Houston Texas.

This vertebra is different the typical ones I find. I found it in pleistocene gravels of the Brazos River in SE Texas. Any ideas? The neural canal is so small....

Here's a small vertebra found on the Brazos River in SE Texas in pleistocene gravel. It has some matrix adhering to it which may mask important features. Hoping some of you can recognize it.

A friend of mine found this tooth on the Brazos River and wanted me to try for an id. I have some ideas, but don't want to influence opinions. It measures 1 5/8 inches long and the crown length is 9/16in. Thanks!

This may be a long shot but I have faith in the mammal experts here. This bone is about 17 inches long and 5 inches wide at it's longest and widest measurements. I found it on the Brazos River in SE Texas. Unfortunately both ends are broken off leaving little diagnostic material, but I'm hoping based on size and morphology of what's left someone can offer an id. It's heavily mineralized. Thanks!

Hi Everyone! This is my first post and my first time taking pictures of fossils for help with ID's. I promise I will get better! About these fossils: These bone fragments and scutes were found west of Houston, TX, along the Brazos River (Fort Bend and Waller Counties). All of these specimens were found loose, on several different gravel bars. From the preliminary research I have done already, it looks like they are all Pleistocene in age. Please correct me if I'm wrong. This is what I think so far... Specimens 1 and 2: Alligator scutes from the Pleistocene Specimens 3 and 4: Soft shell turtle scutes from the Pleistocene Specimen 5: Unknown Specimens 6, 7, and 8: They look like leg bone fragments from Pleistocene mammals, but that's about all I know. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Also, any input you can provide on how to take better pictures would be very helpful.

I'm still having trouble distinguishing bison and cow calcanea even with some of the great line drawings that various members have provided. Here are two that look very similar to me except for the size. Are they both cow, bison or are there differences I'm overlooking? couple more shots

Found this bad boy today. It still has a little enamel on the tip. I've been looking at bear, wolf and cat. Leaning toward cat, but need expert opinions please.

I almost tripped over this log today while out on the Brazos River. So my question is...Is there a way to differentiate mammoth femur from mastodon femur. I can post more pics after I clean it up a bit. Right now all I know is that it weighs 52lbs, 17 inches wide and 30 inches long. It was fun carrying up the bank and back to my car. And wondering if I would dive in after it if I swamped the kayak on the trip back.....

I found this medial phalanx today. The bone in question is on the right in each picture. The bone on the left in each pic is an equus medial phalanx for comparison. I think this may be a tapir medial phalanx. I looked in Harry's gallery, but could not find a match.

I found a phalanx or metapodial bone that I'm not familiar with. It's from pleistocene river gravel on the Brazos in Texas. I'm getting a sloth vibe from it, but can't find a match.

Here is a 2nd ammonite found right near the first one, but a few years earlier. Can anyone tell me what the crystalline component is? This is from the Edwards Formation near Rio Vista, TX. I think it's one of my favorite ammonites because of the crystalline material. I'd kind of like to bleach the crystals to clean it up, but I'm not sure if that's possible.
