Revueltosaurus was a Pseudosuchian, on the branch of the Archosaurs more closely related to the Crocodilians than the Dinosaurs. Despite the serrated teeth, it is thought to have been herbivorous.-

Hi there. I have this Triassic tooth from the Bull Canyon formation sold to me a good few years back as belonging to Coelophysis. I'd tentatively labeled it cf.Coelophysis (due to the locality) but now that I'm going through and re-evaluating everything I'm not sure it is an accurate description considering the curvature (though I'm not knowledgeable on ontogenic variation in this genus). I'm aware of a great thread posted by Troodon about this particular area but I'd like some input on the possibility it could belong to other Archosaurian taxa. My knowledge of this area is minimal so I'd appreciate any help. I counted about 26 denticles/5mm on both carinae.

Hi y'all, found this partial tooth in micromatrix from the Triassic-aged Bull Canyon formation. Serration density looks to be 9-10 / mm on the dc. Could it be dinosaurian?

This carnivore coprolite was found in the Bull Canyon Formation (Upper Triassic - Norian), Quay County, New Mexico. It contains numerous fine, boney inclusions (white). There also appears to be a small jaw inclusion that has a shape similar to amphibians. Originally, I couldn't figure out why there would be so many finely crushed bones. It is not something I usually see. When bone fragments are present, they are usually larger. That said, fibrous osteoderms are also found in the same area. I have included an image of a fairly large one. They are made up of fine, boney fibers that have a configuration similar to woven fiberglass. So here is what I am wondering: 1. Could the fine bone fragments be the indigested remains of these boney osteoderms? Perhaps from juveniles? I do have some small fragments (somewhere), so I could dissolve them to see how they fall apart. 2. Does anyone know what type of animal had these fibrous plates? All I could find is information on osteoderms from phytosaurs and aetosaurs. Neither of those appear to be fibrous. I have found osteoderm fragments of that type in coprolites, but they look nothing like this. I know some of the Triassic amphibian-like tetrapods had osteoderms, but I haven't been able to find information on these. Since the shape of the jaw in the coprolite has a similar shape to those animals, I'm thinking they may have had this type of osteoderm. Of course more than one type of prey may have been on the menu. I recently purchased a small lot of Bull Canyon Formation, New Mexico teeth, most of which were Phytosaurid. Then i noticed this tooth and how eerily similar it is too Pterosaur teeth from Morocco. From what i've read, there have been documented Eudimorphodon fossils collected from the Chinle Group, however i cannot find pictures for comparison. The closest teeth i can find from New Mexico are Preondactylus and Peteinosaurus teeth that have been put up for sale on multiple websites, though the information provided with them is unhelpful. I've included a photo of the "front", "back" and a side profile of the tooth. If clearer photos are needed to assist with identification, i can get some taken and uploaded.

Dear experts, this is my second aquisition: According to the seller it is a "Staurikosaurus" from the Bull Canyon Fm. in New Mexico (no information on the county provided). The length is 1 cm and the width is about 3 mm. I tried to count the denticles but unfortunately my camera is not made for close-ups. The count might be around 7-8 per mm. In contrast to my last post where there was a wrong formation provided by the seller I was able to verify, that the Bull Canyon Fm. does in fact exist in New Mexico. But that's almost it. According to wikipedia Staurikosaurus is only known from Brazil which makes it unlikely for the tooth to be a Staurikosaurus pricei. On the other hand there is a website on triassic vertebrates of New Mexico which also lists Staurikosaurus pricei in this formation... Here are the compressed pictures of my tooth:

ID requested: Triassic Bull Canyon Formation microfossil teeth (Norian Age)

Hi! I recently aqcuired quite a lot of "microfossils" to kick off my Triassic collection, as I personally find it one of the most interesting time periods and while I am aware possibly not all of them are ID'd correctly I just wanted to get some nice fossils from this time period regardless of their ID's. All the fossils I acquired are from the Bull Canyon Formation, Dockum Group, San Miguel County, New Mexico, USA (Norian age) But I myself am not very knowledgeable yet in this material as I just started my collection but I am aware that some if not most of the ID's on these fossils given by the seller might be wrong as everything I read about the Bull Canyon formation says that the formation isn't that well discribed yet. I tried to make the photo's as good as I could, but it wasn't always easy given their extremely small size, so I hope the quality is good enough to work with. So I am kinda hoping is someone here on the forum would like to give it a try to see if he/she could confirm or disprove given ID's. Thank you in advance! The first set of 2 teeth were listed as the Phytosaur "Pseudopalatus" teeth which after doing a bit of research is considered a junior synonym for "Machaeroprosopus" The next collection of 3 teeth were listed as the Pseudosuchian "Revueltosaurus" The next tooth was listed as a "Theropod indet" tooth, and I know there are at least 2 species of theropod present at Bull Canyon, a Coelophysid called Gojirasaurus and a herrerasaurid called Chindesaurus. But I am not even sure whether this tooth is dinosaurian or not. The next set of teeth were listed as "Arganodus" lungfish teeth And the final tooth was listed as a "Sphenodont" (Rhynchocephalia indet.) tooth with affinities to Clevosaurus (which is found in Nova Scotia, Great Britain and China)- 8 replies

Welcome to another microscopic look into the wonderful world of coprolites. Here we have a squished (flattened) spiral coprolite from the prehistoric floodplains that now form the Bull Canyon Formation in the badlands of Quay County, New Mexico. Today's mystery was most likely not ingested. Many times the posterior (non-pinched end) of spiral coprolites can be hollow. I may be wrong, but I think this branchy thing (for lack of a better term) slipped in after it was expelled. To me this looks like part of a branch from a delicate coral - but the poop was in fresh water. Any ideas?

The location where this was found contains both aquatic and terrestrial animals from floodplain habitat. In this coprolite, a small tooth plate impression with residual fragments can be seen on the surface. Since a similar tooth plate was not found within the coprolite itself, it is unclear whether this is an undigested prey remnant or if it was embedded upon deposition. An unidentified bone and numerous fish scale inclusions were revealed using X-ray computed tomography. This specimen was scanned in April 2016 by the University of Minnesota X-ray Computed Tomography Lab using a X5000 high resolution microCT system with a twin head 225 kV x-ray source and a Dexela area detector (3073 x 3889 pixels).
