Just posting some pics of some finds from Chivo Canyon from 2020 and 2024. Would really appreciate any ID inputs on the Unknown Fossils especially the roundish one with many circles in it. It was roughly 4-5" in diameter in the center of a roughly 1 foot diameter rock. Guessing Sponge, Coral, or may an Echinoderm like an Urchin. The Chivo Canyon area is known to have fossils from the Eocene, and Oligocene periods. There are also a couple other unknown fossils which could be bones but not sure. The Tower Snails or Turritellas are probably mostly Turritella Uvasana. I don't know what the other Gastropods are. Thanks in advance for any ID ideas! -Chris.

Is the fossil site at Union Wash worth going to? I've read that the site's been depleted of fossils. Is that true?

Are there any Santa Margarita fm fossil sites that are still open/able to be collected from in and around the SF Bay Area? I want to try and hunt from the formation but all the classic sites, like bean creek, are now closed for collecting.

Good Afternoon, On Easter Sunday as I was putting my boat into the trailer in Newport Beach, CA (Back Bay), my son was playing in the mud near the launch ramp and came across this tooth in the muck around a few rocks. I was hoping someone might be able to help me identify this shark tooth. Thanks, Matt

Hey everyone! Going to STH somewhat soon, I plan on going to Ernst quarries(or if anyone has any other sites they’d recommend), and was wondering if there were any tips anyone could give me, since This will be my first time. Also, are there safety instructions they give you when you get there?- 2 replies

This is a wonderful forum and I am pleased to find it. I have a fossil that needs to be ID'd. I found it in Philo, CA in Mendocino County, USA There were very large rock cliffs full of rocks near the Navarro River. It looks like a tail bone of a tiny creature. And maybe a skull? It is egg shaped. What caught my eye was the consecutive dashed. Not sure it if it is a tail. Thank you for your efforts ladies and gentlemen. Regards, Ted

I will be in Palo Alto CA this week and will have the afternoon on Tuesday to hunt fossils. I would love to find some nice sand dollars and shark teeth. If I find enough I will put some in an auction to support the forum. Any good suggestions? Thank you

I live in Los Gatos, CA and have explored all the fossil locations I know of nearby, mostly capitola. I'm traveling to the east coast over the summer - I will be spending two weeks in New York, NY, about a week in New Harbor ME, and several days in Milford, PA. It would be great if you could recommend some sites nearby! Thanks
