  1. As the title states, I'd love to see how TFF community displays or stores their micro/pretty small fossils. I'm trying to get ideas how to display mine, so I thought I'd start this thread- I'm sure I'm not the only one that will enjoy the fresh ideas. Happy posting
  2. After some negotiations will my girlfriend she accepted that my fossil collection would be a nice addition to our living room. Finally I think that I am in a point I can share the progress. Now I just have to keep buying fossils for the empty cabinets. I didn't discard any fossils even if some are composites/low quality from when I started collecting as it has sentimental meaning.

    Fossils in the office

I have decided to bring part of my collection to the office. So, my collegues from the sourcing team acquired two display cabinets standing in the open space area, accesible to all. People are enjoying it. You can also see small collection of lower Devonian vertebrates from Ukraine. This is my micro - and symbolic contribution reflecting current situation. Tomasz

    STORAGE CABINETS

If you're like me you are always searching for that perfect storage solution for fossils. Antique "flat files" are expensive and generally have drawers that are too thin. Modern files such as those used for architectural drawings are too expensive and have a flap that keeps the pages flat. I've settled upon using kitchen cabinets. The drawers are 3" deep and extend fully, which is important if you have any hopes of seeing what's in the back 1/3 of the drawer. The brand is SEKTION and is sold by IKEA. They come in many different colors and sizes. Putting them together is tedious but repetitive. READ AND FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS! Be sure to select the full extension drawers and the ones that are made to go behind cabinet doors. You don't utilize the doors but this insures that the drawers will have enough space between to allow you to pull them out without having to install pulls. Below are mine.
  5. Hi everyone! Well, the time has come to show you what my fossil display area looks like! The two cabinets were gifts from my mother-in-law, the two side tables with shelves and the bench (which has a storage area inside) and the ammonite artwork were gifts from my husband, the linocut prints are by the extremely talented @Bobby Rico, and the Burgess Shale toys and under-cabinet lights and labels were bought by me. I put as much information as I had for each fossil on the labels, as well as an explanation of how I acquired each fossil so many of you may notice your TFF names on the labels The four empty shelves will be for displaying Viola's fossils - that'll be a project for the summer, so when that part is complete I'll update this thread with additional photos. But for now, please enjoy the little tour of my basement fossil area: The whole area: The shelf that has Precambrian and Cambrian specimens: The cabinet that has fossils from the Ordovician to Carboniferous Animals: The cabinet that has Carboniferous Plants to Oligocene fossils: The shelf that has Miocene to Pleistocene fossils: Thanks for having a look! I'll tag a few people who might be interested in seeing these photos: @caldigger @Nimravis @Tidgy's Dad @FranzBernhard @Wrangellian
  6. I'm looking for a good cabinet to display some fossils and was thinking about what you guys have ? Anything around 2 to 3 feet wide would be ideal. Also would like to know what good places to buy from would be.

    new display cabinets for 2019

To start 2019 with a bang we bought 5 new glass display cabinets at a certain Swedish furniture shop. I spend the last day of 2018 to build the 5 cabinets so I could give some of my best specimens the display they deserve. after a few hours work and selection of the fossils this is how it turned out : most of those fossils are self collected in Belgium ,France and England. With lots of ammonites in the left cabinet fron Northern France an the two cabinets on the right with my Devonian cephalopods from Belgium. As for now I'm attending to my good intentions for 2019 : Labeling al the fossils in the cabinets I'll beposting details of every shelf in the days to come Here is a previeuw of the first cabinet and the 1st shelf: all the specimens from the same location: Cap-Blanc-Nez in France, mostly Cenomanian Ammonites Shelf 1:
  8. I've been wanting to get cabinets to replace my open shelves for a long time because I'm sick of dusting. I went to look at two curio cabinets that were a good deal on Craigslist Saturday and they weren't as good of shape as they looked and they reek of smoke. Obviously I didn't buy them. Well I am very happy that the other purchase of two cabinets did not work out. I got steal of a deal on these two 1800s cabinets instead. I also got a great deal on the third cabinet but I don't have pictures of it yet. One was from a private seller that just wanted to get rid of it the other two are from an antique store that is closing and just trying to get rid of its merchandise. Way better than the particle board shelves with glass doors I looked at Ikea last week. Way better deal to. Once again patience paid off. Someone put a copper panel in the one replacing the glass. I'm going to take the copper panel out and put glass back in. I will post pictures once I get them set up with my fossil and and the lights. Yahoo goodbye to dusting hundreds of fossils one by one!
