I collected some trilobites last year that I have now sent out for preparation. Most of the specimens I found were by splitting rock, resulting in some nice lengthwise cross sections but I also did find one ventral and one dorsal example as well. I wanted to make a post here so I can share the before and after results. Will update this as time goes on, and pieces are finished. #1 ventral #2 dorsal Did a small amount of cleaning on #2. Will let a professional do the rest of the bulk cleaning. #3 I gifted this specimen to a gifted preparator. It looks to be a complete, but small Calymenid. #4 the largest Calymenid I split out. This should be a nice complete specimen. #5 has 2 complete Calymenids, in three pieces of stone. The second specimen cannot be seen, but is underneath the split rock in the first image below. I suspect this one will be a tricky and difficult prep job if both are to be cleaned and seen. #6 this Calymenid is small, complete, and somewhat enrolled. #7 the specimen I am most excited about. This doesn't match the Calymenid cross sections shown above. Perhaps a Dalmanatid? I dont think a complete one has been collected here yet, so chances are pretty slim. That's all I've sent out for now. Many of these sections are very difficult to see without certain lighting and wetting, but I tried my best to showcase what I've been looking for in the rock. I look forward to sharing the results with all of you soon!

I was storing more of my collection away the other day, when I saw the eye of my Colpocoryphe specimen. Eye lenses! My other specimen has them too, but the eyes are a bit crushed. I thought it would be nice to share. I never saw these, and the second one was the first ever trilobite I got. I can’t believe I never noticed them.

Psittacosaur9's Cabinet Renovation Fossil Identification - Palaeozoic Thread
Psittacosaur9 posted a topic in Fossil ID
Hello everyone! Hope you have all had a good day. I have just finished a long day of work; clearing out my old display case and bookcase, photographing my specimens, carrying my new cabinet and bookcase up from the garage. Now, I am going to post some photographs of Palaeozoic fossils I would like identification of. I will send the other fossil photos later. For any of these I would like the most specific identification possible, as I am creating labels for my fossil display. Sorry if the lighting is poor. If any of you want them, I can take more photos tomorrow. Specimen 1: Calymenid I obtained this Calymenid Trilobite from a museum. I do not know the location, although due to the large volume of commercially available fossils from the country I would suspect Morocco. I initially believed it to be a specimen of Calymene celebra, due to the shape of the cephalon and the bulging eyes, but found out that in Morocco the closely related Felxicalymene is more common. Are there any noticeable distinguishing features between different types of Calymenids one of you or I could identify on the fossil specimen? If anyone has a guide, it would be very helpful. Specimen 2: Goniatite I obtained this Goniatite from a museum. Seeing as the museum described it as coming from the Jurassic, I wanted to double check their identification, as Gonitaites were only present in the Palaeozoic, and after cross-referencing the specimen with online images, I am pretty sure it is a Goniatite. The museum's labels stated the specimen came from Madagascar, but the fossil seems to be most similar to Goniatites from Morocco. What are all of your opinions on the fossil's identity? Specimen 3: Orthocone I do not remember where I obtained this Orthocone from, but I do know it came from Morocco and that I bought it as 'Orthoceras. However, the exact taxonomy of Moroccan Orthocones seem to be in a bit of a mess, as Orthoceras was a wastebasket taxon, and is now considered to only be found in Europe. Different sources have identified Moroccan Orthocones such as this one as 'Arionoceras' or 'Orthocycloceras' (the latter name in particular was used in the 2021 DK Fossil Handbook). Which one would be the more appropriate name? Or is another name more valid? Thank you all for your support! Tomorrow, when I find the time, I will post some Mesozoic and Cenozoic animal fossils, Triassic plant fossils and some fossils I am concerned might be fake. -
These are a couple of trilobites purchased in Morocco. Both this and the colour lead me to believe they were unearthed there as well. The trilobites, based on my limited knowledge of trilobite physiology, are probably of the Calymenidae family, but said family is a rather diverse one and hence a more exact identification would be appreciated. I didn't photograph their undersides as they are for the most part covered by matrix. Hopefully these specimens are of high enough quality to be identified. Thanks in advance for any proposed IDs Othniel

Rediscovering New York: Trenton group and Pulaski Formation
Al Tahan posted a topic in Fossil Hunting Trips
Hello fossil folks Just another one of those “Rediscovering New York” posts. This Edition will include my efforts looking for the Trenton group and exploring the Pulaski formation. More Ordovician exploration in the central New York area. This past Saturday me and my good friend Matt did some trout fishing in the Rome area and another town north of Rome. I had scouted these spots for 2 reasons.....trout and trilobites! One location seemed to have Trenton group exposures and another I had already confirmed as the Pulaski formation but wanted to explore it more. Both were located on stretches of the Mohawk River and anyone can go fish/hike these waters. I learned of another Trenton group exposure with trilobites but it’s posted trespassing. Eventually Ill get the courage to do some door knocking in the area to try and find the owners. I guess I don’t know what I would say lol. I wasn’t really in the mood for that so I went to legal stretches of the Mohawk River for this adventure. The goal: 1. Find Trenton group exposures 2. Confirm trilobites from the Pulaski formation 3. Catch trout!!! More to follow....- 27 replies

Just got back from a trip to Forbes, NSW a couple of days ago. Found some great stuff! But after that we checked out a site mentioned very vaguely in an old paper and were pretty successful! The site which is located near Parkes, NSW has Late Ordovician trilobites and other fauna. From what I can gather most of the species from the site are undescribed(?). Anyway, here are a few of my finds, maybe @piranha could help out with some ID's. Oh and I haven't finished prepping these specimens, but I'll post them when I have, although it may be a while since my airscribe has decided to break Crinoid Undescribed calymenid Unidentified trilobite cephalon Another no ID trilobite cephalon. Halfway through prep... continued...

Quite a large specimen even for this quite big species. The length given is of the animal along the centre of its back, not the diameter.

A nice Dictyonema flabelliforme dendroid graptolite from Oslo Fields in Norway. It's Tremadoc, Lower Ordovician in age and is thus maybe around 480 mya. Another angle :
