I have a minor medical procedure tomorrow morning. Nothing serious but it will keep me out of the Peace River for a week or so....So today I went hunting for the last opportunity before a layoff. Did I tell you that I am lucky? I have 4-5 hunting friends and when asked, they all claim that I must be one of the luckiest fossil hunters in the world.. You can judge. My friend Dave had found a Meg in a new location for him and suggested we go back to the same location today. When I got to this "new" location, I realize that I had dug this same spot extensively back in 2013-2014. However, the depth of the river in down from last moth and Dave indicated that he had found deep gravel with lots of hemis, tigers, duskys, lemons and a few Megs.. Sounds interesting , We really had a workout expanding the hole down and out. I was in waist deep water to start and shoulder deep water at the end of the day. Lots of small teeth, plus , horse and chunks of Mastodon, Mammoth, and ivory...Dave was finding similar fossils plus a number of nice small Megs. Nothing unique Until. Dave thought this might be tusk because of the obvious layering. I am not positive, but If it is not tusk, there are few sources of 4-6 inch canines in the Peace River watershed. Let's see what Bobby think for this find. @Boesse I could not be more pleased. ANY identification yields a super rare fossil, even one that is broken in half. As we paddled back to the bridge, Dave indicated (half_humorously I hope) that he may not be taking me to his new locations in the future.

Hey guys! I was wondering if anyone can tell me what this might be. Im pretty sure it is fossilized. I was thinking it was a skull, specifically that of a mammal but I am not sure which. Canine? Thank you for any help!

Any opinions on this tooth? Found in Yazoo County, Mississippi. It was found in a small creek approximately 1/2 mile into the hills from the delta. It measures 2 & 3/4" in length.

When I was hunting 4 times a week, I would ziploc bag most small fossils without serious identification. Cleaning out after Irma, I am sorting 2014 bags. Here is a canine that I originally thought dolphin. Now I think more likely coyote or raccoon, but even unsure how I would decide .

I found the surprise tooth mixed in with a box of fossils I bought. I have no location information. The coloring looks very similar to what you seen for Cave Bear teeth from Romania. What's the tooth seems kind of small to be from a cave bear unless it's from a juvenile. It was in a box that also had a cave bear molar from Romania. Thank you.

Hello to all! This would be my first post and what motivated me to join the forum is because we have found something I just can't nail down. On a recent fossiling trip with my family my daughter found a skull in a stream bank located in central NJ where shark teeth are the common find. In fact this skull fragment was partially exposed in the stream bank just above a layer of gravel that was producing sharks teeth. I was solidly set in and only exposed because of recent storm water erosion.The stream bank was a sharp cut out from the landside and this fossil was approximately six feet below the surface layer. I've compared the skull to modern day coyote and wolf skulls. The brain cavity is larger than a coyotes and while about the same as a wolfs the top fin is about 2-3 times the size of a wolfs. I went on a comparison google photo search and the closest match I can find is from a dire wolf! Do I dare say this is what it is? Ok, maybe not, but I am thinking this is an ancestor of todays wolf. Here are the shots. what do you think? Here it is next to a coyote skull I'm 54 and have been fossiling since I was about nine and this is one of the cooler things I've seen found. Greetings, I need help identifying this jaw bone. It looks to me like any wolf jaw bone I have seen. However, wolves only recently returned to the region it was found and it appears old.. at least to me. I would like to identify it and to learn how to posatively identify differences between wolf jaw bones and dogs. I'm also interested in any good reference on the subject I might aquire. Thank you for any help!!
