    Abelisaurid tooth?

Hi all. I have this tooth that i think is either an abelisaurid tooth or a carcharodontosaurus premax. Does anyone here have an idea which it could be? The tooth is a bit over 2 inches in length. It's from the Kemkem i think
  2. Here is some of my first 6 months of fossil collection ! ( some still in transit oversea ...) First of all I really enjoy spending time in this forum and I feel very lucky to be member of this forum ! some of my collection was ID by you guys Soooo...LET get started ! KEM KEM the mystery - My First Dinosaur fossil .... Abelisauridae tooth ! MY BEST theropod tooth in my collection ! My Mystery vertebra from Kem kem ... possible Theropod vertebra Sauropod tooth << Rebbachisaurus tooth from kem kem Another Abelisauridae tooth < I personally love the color of enamel > Little Carcharodontosauridae tooth from kem kem < quite nice enamel and I love that feeding damage on the tip !!>
  3. Hi everybody Newbie from Belgium here. Been collecting, trading, swapping fossils for over a year now. Nice little amateur collection, bit of preparation-trails,... I've been wondering if there are specific techniques in the final preparation of teeth? Most of the high value teeth I see on *insert auctionsite* seem to have this shine/luster/gloss to them which makes them very pleasing to the eye. The photos of the Carcharodontosaurus-tooth show what I mean. I have about 10 of these (+7cm), but in no way as "shiny". Has there been any coatingproces to the original tooth to get this effect? Completely new to this specific field of knowledge - so I rather ask "the experts" on this forum.
  4. Hi . I got some rooted teeth. I heard they are harder to find because it means the dinosaur died. So are these good Thanks
  5. Along with the debate on how many Spinosaurids are there in the Kem Kem we have a similar one on Carcharodontosaurids. Attached find paleontologist Andrea Cau blog on this subject. He analyzes the arguments brought by Ibrahim et al. (2020) and offers his rebuttal: http://theropoda.blogspot.com/2020/10/sauroniops-non-e-carcharodontosaurus.html His Conclusions "1) The front of Sauroniops is not 60% of that of Carcharodontosaurus , but of comparable size (and proportionately more stocky and broad, and both extend over 19 cm above the skull). 2) The position of the prefrontal facet of Sauroniops is not homologous to that of Carcharodontosaurus (anteromedial in the first, posterolateral in the second). 3) Sauroniops does not present diagnostic characters of Carcharodontosaurus at the level of the temporal fossa and the interorbital septum. 4) Carcharodontosaurus does not show the diagnostic character of the expanded dome at the level of the preorbital area, nor the deep separation of the nasal branches, diagnostic of Sauroniops . Therefore, there is no reason to consider the two taxa as synonyms ( contra Ibrahim et al. 2020)." Hopefully we will see something similar on Sigilmassasaurus from the authors with papers on this genus.
  6. hi, the tooth in question was found in the Kem Kem basin. the dealer sold it to me under the name Deltadromeus agilis. after looking at it, I am more of the opinion that it is a Carcharodontosaurus tooth. what do you all mean? (measures 5 cm) best regards
  7. Hi everyone, I was looking around for carch teeth and this one caught my eye. It’s in rough shape but I don’t mind. Only issue is, to me the tooth looks like it has some glue and possibly composite on it. I want to know what you guys think so please let me know! Does it look like a low quality tooth, or a bad repair job? Tooth measures 4 inches long and comes from the Kem Kem Basin

    Carcharodontosaurid Tooth Position

I have had this carcharodontosaurid tooth from the Kem Kem Beds of Morocco since Christmas 2011 and it is still among my most prized fossils. I took a photo of the cross section today and noticed that it's a rather fat tooth. There are other old pictures of it in my Gallery but does anyone know what tooth position such a fat Carch tooth could be? Premax, maxilla, dentary? The tooth is 7 centimeters long. Thanks in advance.

    Carcharodontosaurid foot claw?

Hi, I saw this large 8.9cm (3.5 inch) Kem Kem claw for sale. It is labelled as a Carcharodontosaurus (or Carcharodontosaurid) foot claw. I wanted to ask if the identification looks likely - i don't believe it is Spinosaurid and not sure of other large theropods the claw could be from. I should also ask if it looks genuine - the seller states that there are a few breaks but no restoration done on it. Thank you.
  12. Hi all, I'm interested in finally purchasing some (theropod) dinosaur teeth for my collection. I'm just not sure where to start. I've been eyeing up some reasonably-priced stuff from a website. The material comes from the Kem-Kem beds in Morocco. Of course, I understand that going into the realm of dinosaur teeth (especially those from the Kem-Kem beds) and expecting any sort of accurate I.D. would be a poor idea. However, I'd at least like to know if they're even theropod teeth before I drop money on them. (Again, they are very reasonably priced.) There are a couple of items I'm considering: Labeled as "Abelisaur teeth" Labeled as "Carcharodontosaurus teeth" I can post more pics; the seller has a few for each. On one hand, the "carcharodontosaurus" stuff is better documented in the region which is always nice. However the "abelisaur" items are kind of in better shape. I guess my main questions are: Are they actually "dinosaurian" ? (I would be happy just being able to call them "theropod indet." but of course if the given labels are accurate that would be nice.) Would they be bad purchases? What would you purchase, if anything? I apologize in advance for my ignorance and I hope to learn something.

    carcharodontosaurus tooth

Hello, This is my latest acquisition. A tooth of carcharodontosaurus sp (impossible to certify that it is saharicus I think?). How do you find it? Is it a nice piece ? There is a lot of restoration or red flag ? Thanks !

    carcharodontosaurus tooth

Hello everyone!! I’ve just added a new tooth to my collection that puts my t rex tooth to shame and I wanted to get everyone’s opinion on if this is in fact a 5 inch carcharodontosaurus tooth? I’ve done some research and I’m kind of confident that it is. Kind Regards Dylan Macnish

    Enamel lines in teeth

So when I was taking a better look at my spinosaurus teeth I noticed that in the enamel part there are lines coming out from bottom to top, are these created by minerals or it was some kind of blood vessels or veins from when the animal was alive? Thanks.
  16. Hello, so i was thinking about buying this tooth, what do you think of it? is it real? Thanks.

    How are fossils formed

Going really basic here being new on the fossil game i wanted to know how a fossil gets created because i have read that the bone gets replaced by rock or sediments and they take its original form but if that's the case then we are not holding teeth, we are holding rocks in the form of teeth when holding a fossilized tooth for example. I don't really know so if someone could please explain to me if the fossil is actual tooth like it was back then or it becomes rock and the general process it would be much appreciated.
  18. So i have a small fossil collection and i want to learn how to study teeth and their anatomy the teeth i already have are from spinosaurus, mosasaur, carcharodontosaurus and megalodon if anyone could help me learn how to do it i would be really thankful. Thanks.

    How to study fossils.

So having a small fossil collection i have thought of the possibility of studying the fossils especially the dinosaur teeth but the problem is im not a scientist so i don't know how to study them so if someone could tell me if cheap fossils like these could be studied and how it would be largely appreciated. (Collection includes 2 spinosaurus teeth, a meg tooth, 2 mosasaur teeth, mammoth hair, carcharodontosaurus tooth) Thanks.
  20. Last year when I was still a rookie in the dinosaur tooth collecting hobby I acquired a rooted Carcharodontosaurus in a trade. I was advised shortly after receiving it by a few people that it looks pretty fake. I have only just got the time to look in to this properly and my findings astounded me! Attached is a before and after image. The root is completely fake and the crown is made up of at least two different carch teeth and then glued together and painted. I have now thrown this tooth in the bin. My advice for all collectors so they don’t make the same errors as me and others I’m sure is to get second and third opinions before buying or trading!

    Dinosaur foot claw

Hello! I received this claw today Do you know what dinosaur it can be? The seller assures that the claw is not restored. Foot claw and toe bone (posible from other dinosaur) from Kem Kem (Morocco) 0% restoration, ¿Carcharodontosaurus? Size: claw 6cm, bone 3,5cm Thank you so much!
  22. Hello together, I am new to this forum and am starting to build my collection of dinosaur teeth. Because I want to do it properly, I am cataloguing the teeth I already own (unfortunately there aren't many yet). While taking pictures for my database I stumbled upon one tooth I bought two years ago on a fossil fair here in Germany. According to the seller it is supposed to be a Carcharodontosaurus sp. from the Kem Kem formation in Morocco. Bit it looks completely different from my second Carcharodontosaurus sp. I bought last year (picture 2) and which shows the classical serration. A first search for similar teeth on the internet remained without any results... So here is my hope that you can help my with the identification. Thanks in advance and please excuse my English...

    Huge carcharodontosaurus teeth

Hello! I am looking for buying these two great teeth of carcharodontosaurus. The seller assures that they are not restored. I think they are of good quality and have good enamel and good serrations. Do you think they are of good quality? Is it possible to get better pieces? Thank you very much for your help. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1N__GZroIEmRJ2VHlUzf8YvgeQbacdhfr/view?usp=drivesdk https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_Ft6XS2bwSgrG63tuUipBwDKM4fC-w-d/view?usp=drivesdk https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Na_iaYfJz7w-OK8S6pqLRmp0Y8DDSmRn/view?usp=drivesdk https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IT7SQNWcuU746VL6rGoVF_ZJrq-qotla/view?usp=drivesdk
  24. Hi everyone, Im looking at a bunch of stuff that someone got from the big fossil expo this month, but I want to be sure of what is what before I do anything. There's a few things way beyond what I could potentially get, but I'm just curious about in general. These are all Moroccan, and most, if not all, are Kem Kem. are these first 4 pics spinosaur? With the teeth I know the 2 on the top&left are probably carchar teeth, but I'm wondering about the other 2. In the 2nd picture, I'm guessing the right one is a spinosaur vert, right? What about the other one? I'm sure it would probably be very hard to tell with just a single rib, but could the rib be spinosaurus? It seems to match some museum spino skeleton ribs, but that's the best I can figure out:/
