    This is a Carnian aged natural association of Traumatocrinus crinoids, and either Trachyceras, or Neoprotrachyceras Ammonoids from Guanling Guizhou province China.
  3. Found recently this specimen in the wider Epidaurus region Greece . The matrix rock as well the as the ammonite is green silicified limestone with jasper pigments or enlosures in some parts . Considered geologically Upper Anisian - Carnian . Morphologically is close to Nevadites but not for sure as I am no expert in identification . Any help to ID welcome

    Upper Carnian/Tuvalian ammonoid fauna from the historical location/ditch on Vordersandling. The shown ammonoids come from a small lense that was found by me several years ago. No coarser ribbed Projuvavites was found only Juvavites bacchus MOJS. Therefore I range this fauna to the dilleri Zone. Tropites aff. subbullatus, Paratropites sp., Discotropites sp., Megaphyllites sp., Sandlingites cf. oribasus and Arcestes sp.

    Trachyceras cf. hekubae MOJS. from Triassic/Carnian/Austriacum Zone, Hallstatt limestone of Austria. Diameter is about 9cm. Below is a fragment of Neoprotrachyceras thous (DITTMAR). This ammonoid and the orange colour of the rock indicates the austriacum zone.

    Sirenites sp. from the Triassic/Carnian, upper aonoides zone. Hallstatt limestone of Austria. Size is about 6cm. Good to see on this specimen is the characteristic feature of Sirenites s. s. that each single rib ends in two venter nodes.

    Triassic Nautiloids

    just finished a lower Carnian slab with two Nautiloids(probably Mojsvaroceras cf. perarmatus) Additionally a questionable bone fragment appeared during prep. (the second bone within 20 years of collecting in the Hallstatt limestone) Unfortunly I didn't take "before" pics because I didn't think that it turns out so well. Can anyone confirm that this is bone structure on the polished part? I think so, but I am not sure. The ammonoid on top is a Monophyllites simonyi. So the slab is of lower Carnian, Julian time. regards Andreas
  20. Had a good excuse to explore the Falling Creek formation which I think is upper Triassic ( Carnian?) ...a nice walk in the woods and some plants to boot! Haven't had a chance to make ID's yet...

    Slab with Tropites torquillus MOJS.(the big one), Tropites fusobullatus MOJS.(the lower one) and 2x Tropites ssp.(left end and right top) The middle ammonoid on the right end is a Trachysagenites sp. The small smooth ones are Arcestes sp. The orthocone Nautiloid points to the direction of the palaeocurrent. Prepared from the downside. Big parts of the upper side of this ammonoids are disolved due to the strong condensation in this limestone. Stratigraphic range and occurence: Upper Triassic/ Carnian/Tuvalian, subbullatus zone. Hallstatt limestone of Austria.
  22. Hello On my second fossil trip this year I decided to do a little exploration in an area which was hitherto not visited by me. It didn’t take long and I stumbled over a limestone block that shows the typical lower Carnian (Julian) oxidic hardground crust. I was surprised because the geological map of this area only shows Norian strata. The weathered brown and black, oxidic cauliflowers like structures (by the point of the chisel) within the limestone are microbial reef build-ups of the sessile foraminifera Tolypammina gregaria, WENDT and Frutexites sp.     Diplosirenites raineri MOJS.=big one in the middle, 3x Trachyceras sp., Mojsvarites agenor(MUENSTER),=smooth evolute one on right edge, Pompeckjites layeri(HAUER), Megaphyllites jarbas(MUENSTER), div. Sirenites sp., Dictyoconites sp., Atractites sp., Arcestes periolcus MOJS.,.. A species of Eupinacoceras sp., most probably the ancestor of the following Tuvalian Eupinacoceras rex MOJS. is on this block too. The slab is prepped from the underside. On the backside the marly horizon of the Carnian Pluvial Event is shown.

    Triassic Ammonoid Prep

    I am happy because I ve just finished prep work of an upper Carnian ammonoid block. The block was found in spring this year (2013). It was prepared from the downside. Prep time is about 40 hours. First pic is the rough block. It looks unspectacular because it was a dry day and the real colours of the limestone can not be seen. After washing its red and grey colour is visible. During prep work I took of some limestone parts and ammonoids to reach the fossils below. Unfortunly a fault runs through the block. You can see the dislocation of the bigger horizontal laying orthocone nautiloid
