Real and bad preserved, or carved and paint Keichousaurus ?
Brevicolis posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hello, i saw this Keichousaurus from Gouizhou, China, on auction today and think theres something wrong about it. The bones look like If they're carved from one piece, the toes look paint. But im not sure If its a complete fake. Because many of the structures seem to be real, but badly preserved. Also, i dont know how common it was in the 1980/90's to fake Keichous. Thats when it was found. So what do you think about it, is it a real and bad preserved one, a 50/50, or a complete fake ? Thanks for any advise ! (The seller didnt made that many close up pictures from different angles, sadly) -
Help Identify this "frog" Rock? Fossil? Coprolite? Coral? Magical carving?
Rufus posted a topic in Fossil ID
Hello and thank you for looking. I found this rock in a dry river bed in Nayarit state, Mexico, near an ancient petroglyph site next to the river. I always thought it looked like a little frog, but have not been able to figure out what it might be. I really appreciate your help. It's heavier than the common volcanic lava rock from the area. -

Found at the beach yesterday and I am obsessed with this ai can't stop looking at it it seems to be a carved picture or something on top of some Flint stone what could this be? -
Hi, I found these teeth several years ago on a beach near Venice, Florida. At the time, I didn’t notice the one with what appears to be a primitive type carving on it. I do not normally hunt nor collect shark teeth so any expert opinions would be great appreciated:)

Geocoma Carinata (brittle starfish) real or carved?
Rvald005 posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hello everyone! first time poster here. I wanted to gather some opinions on whether this is a genuine or carved brittle starfish. I found it for sale online and wanted to purchase it for my collector wife (as a surprise). However, I heard/read there are many fake fossils and I don’t have enough confidence to make a call on its authenticity. What do you all think? thanks a lot for the help and advice. -Robert- 8 replies

Spinosaurus Claw, fake or not?
JavierMS posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Greetings, I recently acquired a big spinosaurus claw from a moroccan seller at a fossils and minerals event in Barcelona, Spain, called Expominer. I was quite happy with the purchase until a friend of mine told me that it could be a fake claw carved from a bone, but he is not sure, I have been checking similar spinosaurus claws on catawiki and they are sold as real dinosaur claws... What do you think? Thank you very much. -
Brittle star fossil, genuine or carved?
MarielleK posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hello all. I saw this brittle star fossil up for sale, and wanted to check if it was genuine. It says it is from Morocco, and from the Ordovician period. I know a lot of sea stars and brittle stars coming out of Morocco are carved. I am not as educated on echinoderm fossils as much as others. I've included pictures. What do you all think? Thank you!- 5 replies
