  1. I was wondering how you display your small dinosaur teeth? I was conserding Gem Jar cases. I just got a small dutch mosasaur tooth and some perfecr abelisaurid sp. crowns & and as I continue my fossil teeth expension. I'd like to give them the display they deserve. How do you guys and girls do it? Please show some pictures and tips! Would be greatfull!
  2. Today I stopped at Goodwill to see if I could find any plastic Plano fishing containers to store some fossils and instead found this extremely large pill container that I will use to store small / micro fossils. It is a very secure case and should work out nice and limited clutter from other cases, and at a price of $3.99, not a bad deal.
  3. I was wondering what you all recommended for displaying your collection. My collection includes both rocks and fossils. One of my concerns is I have several pieces that weigh over 40 pounds so I needed something very sturdy. In addition, several of my pieces are about 16 inches in height so I need something with adjustable shelves. I prefer the style of an older looking antique bookcase. I have found many online but I am not sure if they are study enough without seeing it in person. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!
  4. I am always looking for different cases to take with me when I am collecting fossils (Non Mazon Creek). I picked this nice little, thin (2”) plastic carrying case. This case will be perfect for collecting road cuts that contain different species of fossils. I can’t wait to try this one out. Purchased at a large box home improvement store for $5.99.
  5. Hey guys so I got this display case a few years ago and was going to use it recently when I found that the plastic film is no longer clear but is a bit cloudy. Dont know how it happened but was wondering if there was any possibility of getting it cleaned? Thanks

    Collecting Case for the Car

I love to use Plano plastic trays to store fossils at home or when I am in the field. Today I stopped at the Plano Outlet store in Plano, Illinois. I pass by Plano all of the time and never put it together that Plano, Illinois is where Plano Manufacturing was located- go figure, but enough about that. I stopped here last week to check it out and went back again today to get the below pictured item, I got it for $34.99, which is about 1/3 of the price on line, outlet stores are alright by me. I figure that I will keep the case in the car when I am out collecting and I will place fossils into the trays as I collect at different sites. The top opens up and I can store chisels, super glue, plastic bags, safety glasses or even a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. On either side of the top, there are these two storage areas. The case opens up to expose 7- Plano trays of different sizes, that pull out for easy access. There is 1 tray that is the largest and deepest that fits on the top of the rack. Underneath that, there are 3 trays that are thinner. On the left side of the case there is one case that slides in and out. On the right side, there are 2 thinner cases that slide in and out. On the back of the case there is another storage area where I could slide another case. Lastly, on the bottom there are 4 sticky rubber pads that will keep it from sliding around. I really hope that this case works out well for me, and at the price I got it for, I cannot loose.

Where to buy a fossil display case in Europe

Hi all, A couple of years ago I built up quite a collection of Moroccan mosasaur teeth, which, unfortunately, are now lying in various boxes wrapped in plastic. I'd really like to put them out on display, however haven't found the right way to do so. Preferably, I'd be looking for something like an old-style museum display cabinet, where the teeth would rest on red velvet (or felt, foam, etc.). Now I came across these display cases on one of the big auction sites today, and this really seems to meet my needs. Unfortunately, though, they're slightly more expensive than I had imagined. What deters me, however, are the high shipping costs (almost double the actual cost of the cabinet itself) and the fact that I'd need to import the case into Europe - that is, not only have the extremely high shipping costs, but also customs processing and tax. If I add all of this together, the total price becomes disproportionate to the product. In was therefore hoping someone might know where you could buy a similar product this side of the Atlantic. In case it matters, I wouldn't need to case to be wall-mountable, as I'll be laying the box down flat... If you have any suggestions pertaining to specific shops, please keep the forum's rules in mind and send me a PM.
  8. One issue I have always had has been how to light the display cases for my fossils. I really didn't want to be bothered with hard wiring the lights especially in light of the fact that I may change the configuration in the future. I tried LED lights that were battery-operated but they gave off too much glare. I found some battery-operated LED lights that have a translucent panel that diffuses the light and actually has three different brightness settings. Below are some pictures. I'll also try to post the link to the Amazon listing for the light. Tom https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B083S7SKL6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  9. I do like getting different cases for the storing of fossils or for collecting in the field. Today I saw this at a large home improvement store that starts with an “M”. This case is very nice and well made, it is also is compartmentalized for different size fossils- it is 17” by 14 “. Lastly it was on sale for $19.99, so I had to buy it.
  10. In the past I have posted some plastic “Plano” brand cases that I periodically find and buy from Goodwill. These are great cases, they are made very well and are compartmentalized and perfect for storage of smaller fossils. The below pic shows some of the Plano cases that I have, they are the thinner ones. But I digressed- so today I stopped in a Goodwill and picked up two of the below cases that must have been used by a salesman for samples. These cases are very nice and well made and they will be perfect when out collecting at road cuts for smaller items such as brachiopods, etc. These cases are also compartmentalized and will allow me to sort fossils as I collect them rather than placing them in plastic bags where the fossils could get damaged by the end of the day. And at a cost of $3.99 each, I could not go wrong.

Another view showing an area of what I do not know. I'm guessing it involves nerve fibers/channels.

    Triceratops skull and brain case

From the album: Dinosaurs & flying reptiles

Another view showing more channels/cross sections of blood flow(the small solid dark gray areas), and nerve channels. I'm not entirely sure what the large dark areas are, although I believe it to be related to blood flow as well.
