From the album: Fossildude's Upper Devonian Fish Fossils
Unidentified fish tooth - possibly sarcopterygian. Catskill Formation Metzgers' Quarry, Canton PA. Upper Devonian. This is actually an imprint of a tooth, with a bit of the enamel/bone material (white, pink, blue) left behind in the imprint. Tooth itself was destroyed in the splitting process, as it was not visible at first. Oh well.© 2021 T. Jones

Hi everyone! I was just going over some of my Catskill fossils when I stumbled across this one, which appears to be two Holoptychius scales alongside lush plant material, especially on the other side (though you can see one stem to the right of the upper scale). The picture on the top is under normal light, the lower one with a bright light from the side to highlight some details. Could anyone help with ID?

I believe this is a partial skull plate of an unidentified sarcopterygian fish. Upper Devonian, Catskill Fm. There is a chance that it is actually a Bothriolepis skull plate.© 2021 Tim Jones
