Dear Guys, I have recently found one piece of femur which is very similar to cave bear because of its size. The length of piece is 15,5 cm and the width in joint part is 7,5 cm. Any idea what is this? Best regards Domas

Hello all, I already posted this topic in Paleo Re-creations, but nobody answered there. I want to make a composite skeleton from an extinct animal, but I don't know witch species I take best. I already tought about Oreodont, cave bear, bison... Do you guys know an animal whose it is possible to collect all the bones (skull is not necassary, but I would love a real skull) Keichousaur is not a good example, because I want have the fun for searching, buying and making a composite. It think mammals are the only option, because reptiles are expensive and difficult to collect all the bones, maybe alligator is possible? What do you guys think about it? Greetings

My whole collection of Ursus spelaeus (Cave Bear) bones from the Pleistocene of Austria. With a couple small bones from Romania. Most of these are from the Dachstein Mountains in Austria but the big jaw and ulna are from the Drachenhöhle in Mixnitz, Austria.- 1 comment

I've laid out my Austrian (and a couple Romanian) Ursus spelaeus collection on my desk. Lots of stuff! I've been trying to assemble a whole paw but am missing several bones of the right size. I'm finding it very hard to find bones from that site, so a friend is sending me a whole paw from Mixnitz, Austria. Among this collection are an ulna, 2 jaws, teeth, canine, top of fused radius and ulna, ball and socket joints, intervertebral disks, rib sections, wrist and hand bones, phalanges, claw cores and other unidentified small bone pieces.

This is my first attempt at cleaning my Cave Bear teeth. I used a "toothpick", electronic toothbrush and water. I think I got a great result!
