  1. Hello everyone, I had the fortune to stumble across this forum as well as fosiel.net/paleontica, and am thankful for the plentiful information. I am a near absolute beginner as regards identification/nomenclature of fossils, geologic strata, etc, but am slowly making my way when time allows. I currently live just south of Paris and am interested in exploring the region. I travel also occassionally through Sweden, Denmark and Germany and am on the lookout for possible spots to stop and have a look around. I had my first expedition in France at Les falaises des vaches noires, one of the best spots imaginable for an introduction to fossil hunting. It did not disappoint. I have at least one more trip planned, this time to the cretaceous region east of here, and may of course imbibe some of the local quaff along the way, in particular at the caves of Legrande-Latour. Any pointers and questions welcome.
  2. The bad weather gave me time to spend some time classifying. so i spent some time on my albian stuff. Everything has been self collected (surface collected) over the years. Everything is also small, so i chose the screws cases to store them. Everything can be seen on a dedicated galery on TFF : here or in higher resolution on my flickr : here 8 cases... So here we go Ammonites : (3 cases) then crustaceans (2 cases) : Other inverts (2 cases) : And last one : vertebrate remains I hope you enjoy it. that's all for now.

  11. Hello all, As each year i made my trip to Troyes and her albian layers in Champagne. On the first day, we decided to head to a first exposure on the bank o the lake. We didnt find much : a few small ammonites, gastropods, bivalves and corals ..... also a few crab fragments, but definitly not much to brag about.... Most of the spot was covered by a layer of dead waterweed, hiding everything. After a quick meal we decided to head to spot 2, another spot by the lake. At second spot, it was even worst : the whole exposure was buried under dry weed. Since there was not much reason to keep on we decided to call it for the day ....with a very very poor loot. On second day i headed alone to our third spot, harder to reach. After a quite long walk in the mud, i reached the exposure. That one was totally free from weed. The spot was very rich. 90 % of the stuff i collected were crustacean parts. Actually the only intersting stuff... but very interesting As a teaser, here come a group view of a part of the etyus martini carapaces i found. The most abundant crustacean of the day. Stopping it for today, to be followed a trip in the numerous species of crustaceans i was able to find.... See you soon

  18. In november, i had my yearly trip to Troyes area, a bit east of Paris. the hunt takes place on the banks of an artificial lake that has been created to avoid river flood in Paris. The banks can be covered either with silt or dead grass, so you got to look for free surfaces in order to find stuff. From one year to next, grass and slit move, therefore what you can find changes. This year was poor regarding shark teeth but rather good for the crustaceans. We mosstly found crabs carapaces : the usual Notopocorystes stokesii and Etyus Martini including that very fine sample : the less frequent : Cretacoranina broderipii and Eucorystes carteri I also found and that s my first ever, therefore my catch of the trip despite its very modest size : Sabellidromites scarabaea We also got lucky at he shrimp department with several hoplopora sp. Those are always crushed with the head apart from the body but there s sometimes nice details like the legs segments on this one. We also found a good quantity of indet. claws fragments like this one : And to finish with crustaceans we also got that one that get us puzzled for a while : goose barnacle article : Pycnolepas rigida More will follow later with ammonites and vertebrates mostly. You can see more specimen on the galery i dedicated to this trip here : Troyes - nov 2015 galery or on my flickr galery here : flickr of troyes 2015
