Is this dinosaur egg real or a composite?
Wowbnjijdat posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hi guys, It is me agian with the question if the dinosaur egg is real. I whould love to have a dinosaur egg, but because all the fakes out there I really need your opinions It seems really real to me because of the partial other egg on the side. But the inside of the egg looks suspicious so it could be a composite.. Kind regards, JK- 11 replies

Taxonomy according to Mindat.org Diagnosis from Liu et al. 2003, p 356: "Fishes of rather large in size and slenderly fusiform in shape. Maxillary and mandible of Palaeoniscid type. Gape very long , with acutely conical teeth on mouth borders. Ventral fin very small and placed between pectoral and anal fins. Dorsal and anal fins rather large , latter larger and longer than former, and rays very numerous. Origin of dorsal fin slightly in front of that of anal. Fulcra developed. Tail heterocercal. Caudal fin equilobate and strongly forked. Ganoid scales very small and rhombic. Transverse rows of scales on trunk very numerous in number. Scales on anterior trunk superficially smooth , with comb-shaped denticles on posterior margins; those on middle and posterior parts of trunk bearing superficially markably crowded striae rostrocaudally." Identified by oilshale using Liu et al 2003. References: Liu et al. (2003) NEW DISCOVERED FISHES FROM KEICHOUSAURUS BEARING HORIZON OF LATE TRIASSIC IN XINGYI OF GUIZHOU. I bought this from a store in my area, it is labeled Licuites Iii. I think it's real but I'm weary, especially since there was a "Made in China" sticker on the back. If it is real, is the ID correct? on the bottom it appears that some fossils have been cut through, and on the end part of the orthocone there is a faint circle in the rock, suggesting it's three D. Assuming it's real, can it be prepped? Thanks for any information!

From the album: Fossildude's Purchased/Gift Fossils
Chinese Middle Ordovician ammonoid - Lituites lituus. Purchased in Bar Harbor, ME. I don't usually buy fossils, but I don't normally get to collect ammonites/ammonoids, personally, and the price was right! I felt that this might benefit from some prep work. I plan to use air abrasives to try to clean it up a bit.© © 2014 Tim Jones

A very rare trilobite seen here in meraspid form (15 segments). The holaspis has 17 segments.

Nidelric pugio is only officially known from one single specimen, so it's uncertain if this is indeed a Nidelric pugio, or something else entirely.

Recent phylogenetic analyses place this worm-like animal either within Nematomorpha or Priapulida. It is distinguished from Cricocosmia by it's much more slender appearance, as well as the absence of sclerites on its trunk.

This new species of Vetulicola is easily identified thanks to the large triangular shape on the front of its head.

Well my wonderful and well intentioned girlfriend wanted to purchase me a fossil and just sent me a link to a eBay listing. The seller is located in the states but specifies the "fossil" is from China. It seems fake to me but I would much appreciate some feedback as to not make her feel bad by fighting for a return. Thanks!

Hi all I recently acquired my first decent crinoid fossil, but alas, I know know nothing about it other than that it's from China. If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be much appreciative. Cheers, Marc

A new oviraptorosaur discovery is out: http://www.sciencemag.org/news/2017/05/smuggled-dino-eggs-gave-birth-baby-dragons Beibeilong represents the third caenagnathid from Asia, further improving the fossil record of Asian caenagnathids and solving the mystery of the dino embryos in giant dinosaur eggs called Macroelongatoolithus. It's therefore apparent that giant egg-thief dinos were common in the Turonian-Maastrichtian interval.
