Good afternoon to all! Once again I apologize for my great ignorance in the world of minerals. My daughter bought directly from the mines, in Minas Gerais, Brazil, this beautiful rock: I can assure you it is not Burnt Amethyst. It's natural and came straight from the mine! The problem is that the explorer of the mine, sold this rock to my daughter with the label of: Hematoid Quartz. So here is my question, that is: Please, what is the difference from a Hematoid Quartz to a Citrine? @ynot

I found this a while back, and I wanted to get your opinions. it has rings at either end, and the texture of the palm parts that remain have a lengthwise tubular structure. You can also see what look like grid-like 'cells' under the 10x loupe. It looks like it broke open at some point, revealing a really astounding bunch of glittering citrine crystals

Hi, all! Local "fossil club" had a great Christmas party this past weekend where we did a White Elephant gift exchange and I got a shark tooth necklace and a new geode. We managed to crack it open with a hammer using the edge of our patio (I really need to get a proper chisel) and found quartz with what I think is some beautiful, glistening citrine. My stepdad has a lapidary so we may take it all to him and see what he can do with the contents of the geode. Obviously, not enough citrine to do something with that alone but thankfully I love quartz in general. The kids love doing stuff like this. I've also decided to get my B.S. in geology when I transfer to the College of Charleston next year (after graduating from my current 2-year college in the spring). Lots of exciting stuff coming our way!
