Hello, here is a new type of claw for me. I found it a couple days ago in a Lance Fmtn site I have in Wyoming. This claw is 1" long. It has an unusual 'twist' to it in that the left side drops down if you are looking at the point view. Almost like it is 'torqued'. Please let me know if you have any info. Is it turtle, crocodile, or dinosaur related? Thx!

Hi, I was recently at a gem, mineral and fossil show where I purchased this fossil that was labeled "Struthiomimus Claw". Upon a closer look when I got home something just seems off. It doesnt really look too much like a claw to me. The tag says that it is from the Hell Creek of South Dakota although that is as specific as it got. Does this look like a Struthiomimus claw? If not, is there any idea as to what it may be instead? Fossil is 1 inch long and and about .75 of an inch tall.

Seller says this is from Morrison formation but not sure what this is or if its even something I just consider purchasing.

Real Spinosaur claw or fake?
Cris Tang posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Good afternoon, May I know this claw is fake or not, please? Because the color seems not natural. But I’m not sure about that. So I hope to learn more about it. Thank you so much. -
Found this rock recently while out foraging. Didn’t see the “eye” in the rock until I got home. I’m a life long rock collector (38 years). I am only recently learning how to identify fossils/artifacts and looking back over my collection with new eyes. I have no method to my madness when hunting. I just like rocks. I am enjoying learning new facts about how rocks/fossils/artifacts are formed and identification. Research is overwhelming when you start searching. FB groups are often rude and unhelpful. I stumbled upon this group and I really appreciate the info and sharing. I read the hints on photos and did my best to get useful pictures. I’m pretty thick skinned so feel free to educate/correct me. It’s part of learning and I won’t be offended. Found on Crowley’s Ridge, Greene County, Northeast Arkansas (red circle on maps) picked from the surface, I’m not much of a digger (yet!) Arrowheads are all over this region. I have never found one. I suspect I overlook them since I’m drawn to other shapes/textures. Thanks for letting me join the community!

Is this a real claw? or is it carved?
msantix posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hi, This is supposedly a Sauropod claw from Talsint, Morocco measuring 14cm. It is in rough state so I am not confident if it is a real claw or if it just carved bone made to look like a claw. Any help is appreciated. Thank you!! -

Small theropod claw?
BirdsAreDinosaurs posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hi all. This little claw (1.6 cm) from the Kem Kem beds is claimed to be a theropod claw. Is that correct? Is it possible to id it to family level? Out of curiosity, I was also wondering if it is possible to tell apart avian and non-avian theropod claws. If so, how can you tell? Thanks! -
Some pick ups from the first day of the Denver show. Figured the price was good enough to take a chance on. I am exhausted walking all day there so gonna be brief. Just wondering any and all opinions on these. First vert: Second vert: claw: thanks for looking!

Everything look alright with this Sauropod claw?
msantix posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hi, I think this does look all natural with no obvious red flags, but I wanted to make sure with some opinions here. It comes from Ait Hani, Morocco (Jurassic in age). Thank you! -
Hello, thoughts on this, please? From Yixian Formation. Sinovenator claw + digit and a partial digit. The claw is 1.7cm. Does the claw resemble Troodontid, or would it be more of a raptor? Also--does the digits look like they do go with the claw rather than a random claw stuck on digit bones? I hope to have better pics soon. Thanks

What type of claw could this be? Theropod or Sauropod or something else?
msantix posted a topic in Fossil ID
Hi, Was wondering what type of claw this could be. It isn't complete and quite small at just over 4cm, but it looks robust which makes me think maybe either Theropod or Sauropod (or maybe croc). It comes from the Elhraz Formation, so maybe if theropod, Suchomimus might be an option. Is something like this identifiable and could it be a hand claw? or is there a lack of papers about claw fossils from this formation. Thank you!- 3 replies

Hi all, This claw has been posted on a certain popular bidding website described as "raptor or T. rex", although several of the image filenames from the seller say "Anzu". It's just over 3 inches long, and was found in Hell Creek, South Dakota. It's the right size for Anzu, but there's no protruding dorsal "lip" of the articulating surface that Anzu hand claws have. The articulating surface also doesn't look like it extends all the way down to the bottom of the claw, as in Anzu foot claws. I can't imagine it's ornithomimus or struthiomimus, as their claws don't have much curvature. Could it be subadult T. rex/nanotyrannus? Dromaeosaurus? Dakotaraptor? Cheers!

Hi, I found this item in my front garden whilst weeding around my new build property, which is in Cheshire, uk. It was within the soil where the aggregate had spilled out of the border (see pic). Could anyone advise their thoughts on what this could be, as to my untrained eye it appears tooth or claw like? many thanks Andy

How real is this Theropod claw from the Kem Kem?
msantix posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hi, I have been offered a Kem Kem claw which I think is a theropod hand claw, but when it comes to claws from the Kem Kem, I have little idea on how to spot composites or claws made out of carved bone (or at least, I worry too much about Kem Kem claws no matter how good they seem). Wanted to ask if someone can help me determine if this claw is real, and if so, are there any repairs done on it. Thank you!
