Here is a recent plant fossil find from the Early Jurassic East Berlin Formation in Hartford County, Connecticut, USA. I gently rinsed the fossil a couple of times thinking it may be a fern-like "false fossil". But from what I could tell at this moment, it may be legit, especially since part of the fossil is overlayed with sediment. Comments, or a possible identification would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello! Here’s an interesting rock I found in Connecticut. It was part of an area of landscape stones that had been brought in from elsewhere (I think it’s probably from somewhere in the state, though, given all the geological variety there). I see the impressions of shells and what I think are crinoid fragments. I’m wondering if anyone can provide a more specific ID on any of those or a guess as to the age of the rock? It’s about 5 and 1/2 inches or 14 and 1/2 centimeters long, to give a sense of scale. Thanks! Side 1 Side 2 Side 1 details Side 2 details

Connecticut Dinosaur Print Specimen?
Maniraptora posted a topic in Is It Real? How to Recognize Fossil Fabrications
Hi all! I’m considering buying this specimen which is identified by the seller as dinosaur prints from Connecticut, but first I wanted to make sure it’s what it claims to be, and not an instance of pareidolia or similar. I also was curious whether anyone here could offer some additional info on the prints—any guesses on age, formation, more specific locality, ichnogenus, etc.? Thanks in advance. I’m very excited to buy this if none of you have any bad news to offer!- 19 replies

Hi everyone, over the weekend I checked out a site about 3 miles away from me. I was told by a friend who had collected in an area very close to this site decades ago that there used to be fish partials there. Unfortunately, the site he was talking about is now filled in and the whole general area is overgrown. I've driven past this stream too many times to count, and given its proximity to a fish fossil site I figured that it would be worth checking out. The point of my trip was to find some arkose or siltstone just to see if it was even there, which it was. View of the stream this photo doesn't do it much justice, but this little outcrop of rock (siltstone? shale? sandstone?) was about 6 feet wide. Enigmatic bean-looking thing (fossil?). I ended up misplacing this piece, I came home and couldn't find it. The best scale reference I can give is that an average sized thumb would perfectly fit inside of it. The bean-looking thing is the only find of note from my quick excursion to the site, I'm not entirely sure on whether it's a fossil or just a geological thing.

I posted an image of this fossil along with all the others that I found, but that image was of poor quality and as such I think it got lost among all the other fossils I sent yesterday. I have no idea what it is, it might not be a fossil but if it isn’t I really have no idea what it is. It looks to me like the fletchings of an arrow but beyond that I have no clue.

Possible Trilobite and Bivalve Fossils found by side of road in Sharon CT.
cabes234 posted a topic in Fossil ID
Two days ago some workmen laid some stone by the side of a road near a pond in Sharon CT and I found two fossils one that appears to be the back of a Trilobite or a Chiton and another that looks to me like scallops or some other bivalve (I know that scallops and trilobites never existed at the same time). Does anyone have any ideas as to what these could be. Also I know this rock is not from where I found it, it was probably sourced from a local quarry so I would have to check with the highway department of Sharon to figure out where these come from.- 17 replies

Fossil, or modern plant imprint? Early Jurassic of Connecticut.
Cianfaglione posted a topic in Fossil ID
I'm not sure if I'm looking at a true fossil, or is this an impression of a modern day plant. As I often do, I washed the fossil down with warm water three times with the hope that if it was a modern imprint, it would partially, or completely fade away. Since it didn't fade one bit, I would like to please ask if these plant impressions are indeed legit fossils, or a stubborn modern day imprint. Early Jurassic plant fragment; East Berlin Formation in Connecticut
Cianfaglione posted a topic in Fossil ID
The first time I found this type of triangular marking I thought it was a broken off tip of a much larger plant fossil. Five specimens later (all identical in size and shape including straight-edged base) and I'm now starting to think that this might be a possible pinnae to some sort of cycadophyte. Illustration from the book Introduction to Plant Fossils; Cleal and Thomas. Early Jurassic, East Berlin Formation of Connecticut. Thoughts and comments would be greatly appreciated.- 4 replies

Conifer Cone??? Early Jurassic East Berlin Formation in Connecticut

I found this interesting plate this morning, not sure what the two (circled) objects are, but they look like possible conifer cones, including what looks like a stem on the top cone-like marking.
